There are various means of being an outcast in one's own life. Perhaps you overdress to a more casual event. You say the wrong thing at the wrong time in the wrong place--and you're dubbed a weirdo from then on out. Any action, no matter how large or small, can render a person a "freak" simply by acting against or in spite of a social norm.

Breathe Me In Words
Since I can remember, well, anything, I remember being fascinated with words. Mama read aloud to me every night before my twin brothers were born. The Wind in the Willows, The Velveteen Rabbit, and Rudyard Kipling's Just So Stories dallied in my burgeoning mind. The painting of a blank canvas with the vast palette of literary hues awakened my very earliest proclivities.
