The Door
The cabin in the woods had been abandoned for years, but one night, a candle burned in the window off the front porch. As I stood amidst the overgrown shrubbery crowding out and covering up the front walk stepping stones as if they were being swallowed whole, I remembered the last time a light had shone out of this house. My heart thumped in my chest like a drummer’s beat in a crescendo. That was the day my life had changed forever.

Chapter 1 There weren't always dragons in the Valley of Sparkling Waters on the planet of Tulé. There was a time, before their arrival through the portal, which had been peaceful. The Valley of Sparkling Waters, located within the country of Lákentash, was called the most beautiful land in all of Tulé. This valley was known not just for its rare beauty, but also for the water’s healing powers. Although Lákentash had many rivers, lakes, and waterfalls amidst its mountains, hills, and valleys, only one valley contained the famous sparkling waters that healed all wounds and illnesses. Oh, how those waters glistened in the sunlight, and at night, the lakes shone like the stars. As if someone had plucked the very lights from the heavens and poured them into the waters of that valley’s lakes.
