Financial Reality
Money has always been somewhat of a taboo subject matter in my family. Every time anything was mentioned about finances the topic was quickly changed into something different. I know my family has always struggled financially and growing up I wanted to do anything I could to not follow in the footsteps of being imprisoned by debt. Today, I took a good hard look at my financial situation and reality set in. I have not done a very good job at straying from the harsh realities of being in debt. I could probably blame part of this on ways of the economy and the rising prices, but when it comes down to the nitty gritty all the blame is placed on myself, alone. I am the one that chose to buy a new car and I am the one that decided to go to college.

Reflections of the Wild
A few common things for people to question every now and then during their lifetime are, "Is my life on the track that I want to be taking? Are there more things that I should be doing? Am I at the same place where I said I would be by now, 10 years ago, or have I crossed to a better path?" Everyone ponders at least one of these thoughts once during their existence, and most people have a special place where they like to go and reflect on these thoughts. The place where I like to reflect on my ideas about how far I have come is in the wilderness, where I have developed a lot of character.

'A Dog's Way Home'
Before I dive in, let me first start by saying if you haven’t seen this movie yet, be sure to bring some tissues with you when you do. I can’t remember the last time I spent nearly the entire two hours of a movie with tears rolling down my face that couldn’t be stopped. Before you read any further, I must warn you, there will be spoilers if you have not seen this movie. If you don’t mind knowing about things that happen in the movie, please continue reading. Push, Push, Push
I push, push, and push. I push my body way past my limitations some days and I still feel like I'm 10 steps behind my peers. I don't know what else I can do. I'm trying to continue, merely survive, but I don't know how to keep up in this busy world. No matter what I do, I’m left feeling exhausted and the things I will try are not enough to add up to the things someone else has already done.

Vulnerability
Here I am again all banged up due to an embarrassing fall. Previously, I have been lucky with falls where the scars remained invisible. Then I have also had falls where I could hide the bruising. And others where I could not, but the scratches and bruises were in less noticeable places and less embarrassing. This is my first time scraping up my face as an adult. All from a simple slip. Three scratches and glue instead of stitches. I can't even hide the scrapes on my face with makeup because the makeup will most likely cause an infection. And it hurts to smile.

Home Remedies for Seasonal Allergies
With spring springing upon us, sunshine is not the only thing in the air. Pollen counts are up along with other natural allergens within our daily surroundings. Unfortunately, if you're like me, that means this is the time of year, you start feeling miserable. Your eyes start to swell up and itch like crazy, your nose won't stop running, you are sneezing every five minutes, your throat is scratchy, and you are ready to punch out your eardrums because of the itching. To make matters worse, the few lucky people that are not suffering from seasonal allergies start asking you why you are crying. "No, I'm not crying, I just can't breathe!" Although, sometimes this season does make me want to cry. Over the last several years, I have tried several allergy remedies that no longer make me want to run and cry, but instead make me feel brave enough to take on the outside world.

I'm Tired
Not a whole lot of people can understand when you say, "I'm tired," what you really mean is you’re exhausted. You are too tired to stand for one more minute, your arms are too tired to hold a book up, and all you can do is stare at something because you're too tired to lie down. They won't understand that walking from the car to the house wears you out to the point you need to take a breather. Even though it seems like you barely did anything, you need to sit down on the couch and regain your strength. And most of all they don't understand when you say, "I'm tired," you mean tired of pretending to be okay to make other people feel more comfortable around you and tired of not having anyone understand what you’re going through.

Feeling Defeat
This past week has been a challenge for me. On Monday night I ended up getting a headache, which turned into a migraine. By Tuesday morning I couldn't even find the energy I needed to push myself out of bed that morning. I had to call in sick to work, which I hate doing, especially as I am trying to save my sick days for if my insurance ever approves the Spinraza treatment. The headache lasted off and on all week at different levels, but luckily I only missed the one day of work. With that, I overall just didn't feel that great throughout the week. I did start feeling better by the weekend, but still not to 100%. I was hoping it would only get better from there, as I had a big weekend coming up the following weekend. I wanted to finish all of my homework during the week. Unfortunately, that didn't happen and I was left with a project to finish and another paper to write by the end of today.

Spinraza
As I mentioned before, I am a 27-year-old living with Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA), Type 3. I consider myself really lucky looking at all the things I am able to do compared to all the things other people with the same disease as me are unable to do. I also consider myself really lucky compared to the things the doctors said I should not be able to do, like walk with extremely weak legs. Well, here I am, still walking and still able to jump. I guess I showed them. I work out too. Working out and stretching are some of the most important things for me to do in order to keep my strength up so that I can keep walking. I hope I am able to continue to walk forever! With that being said, the FDA did approve a treatment in December 2016 for SMA. This treatment is a drug known as Spinraza.
