A Black Rose
Some say they don't see color. Although I understand the phrase in the deepest sense... If I said it I would be denying the fact that I saw it when I saw her and it was the most beautiful version of human. It wasn't just the melanin that was responsible for her lively character. It was the bright smile, the heart, the passion, her dance, the way she spoke, and most importantly— what people fail to see when color rubs them salty... It was her soul. It was like the soil she grew from never lacked water or seed. Although misguided at times she found her path. Not everyone operates that way. Geography kept her strong; she first bloomed in the bay. In Oakland. We took a walk down her block and she'd turn to me and say, "Sometimes I wish I was blind to society's flaws; institutionalized by the governments laws... You would think after years of fighting against all odds...evolution would of provided my people with claws... On my block...I take a second...and pause...thinking about how my RIGHTS had to be written into laws...while for others it was just a birth right given from God."

We Do It
We are different. A collective flock of dedicated souls fighting for something greater than some of us may know. This field is small in comparison but it starts here... When we strip off our fears and replace them with uniforms that reflect the sky at its very bluest and in the truest sense we are warriors. Because we do it. Whether it's fighting to be better alone, or better partners at home, fighting for children or to be better for the ones we already have... Fighting to move forward without moms or dads or anyone that planted us firmly by our roots... Sometimes we are just fighting to grow from those roots and sometimes we are fighting to just breathe... But we still do it. We do it for the women who are prisoners in their own skin. For women who cheer us on but wouldn't know where to begin to do anything for themselves. We do it for the women who can't even speak let alone think of playing on a field without their heads covered... and not with a helmet. We do it for the women who can't walk let alone run... And the women who can but aren't here to do it because they are fighting for a country that isn't always kind to us. We do it for the unborn, the unsung, the ones that missed their chance, the ones who had to dance for 19 amendments because women couldn't even vote until 1920. We do it for the ones that play tug of war for basic equal rights, the ones who have to fight just to love someone. We do it for little girls to have something to look forward to... something to strengthen them at their cores and teach them to always want more. We do it for the women who secretly want more but were taught that this is a man’s world and she has no place in it. We do it for the men and women who believe that that statement is simply not true and it's everyone's world to make a difference. Because we are different... In life and on this field... We go hard before we go home and we never stop until the whistle is blown. When the clock starts we don't stall, we stand tall. We know that it's inevitable to fall and get back up? We do it. We do it for each other... Because who doesn't love music and this our song our composition is 11 strong and we do it inderstanding that our days are much different than these nights and they are filled with fights, monotony, long shifts with babies dying ... We do it. Because women bear children for far too long to act as we are weak, not strong... Show your strength for everyone who believes in us... and the coaches in life and on the field that see in us... Potential. We already had wings but they help us to spread them wide, taking flight into a sky that reflects our uniforms at its very bluest and in the truest sense... We are warriors. Because we do it... And In the truest sense... We are Falconz. Let’s do it.
