What Went Wrong: An Early End to Red October
Now, the Philadelphia Phillies know how it feels. Two years ago, the Phillies were in what is now regarded as the "sweet spot": the #6 seed in the National League. They were playing with house money. They clawed their way in and made the best of it. Ousting the Cardinals in the Wild Card Series, eliminating the then-defending champion Braves in the NLDS, and defeating the Padres in the NLCS. The Phils fell two wins short of winning the whole thing, but even so, the promise was there.

Top Scoring Players on Fantasy Football (Week 5)
Well, Fantasy Football people, we have made it. Five weeks have passed, meaning that in standard leagues, the regular season is at the 1/3 mark. While the actual NFL regular season is 18 weeks long, a standard Fantasy Football regular season is 15 weeks long. A 15 week season, followed by the Semifinals in Week 16, and the championship and other consolation games in Week 17. Some custom leagues actually do use the entire regular season and crown champions on Week 18, but in a standard Fantasy Football league, it's a 15 week regular season, the Semis (Week 16), and then the championship (Week 17).

A Rough Humpday in Vegas
Welcome back! I enjoyed writing game-by-game recaps of the Colorado Avalanche's 2023-24 season, that I decided that I'd do it again this season. Last year was a tad better than the year before. It was rocky at the end, but we did deliver a memorable playoff beatdown towards the season's best goalie, so there's that. We also delivered some amazing comebacks as well; we came back from down 3-0 quite a bit, and even came back from down 4-0 in one game. We even pulled off a 3-0 comeback in the playoffs last year!

Stating the Obvious: The Jets Fired the WRONG Coach
Well, they did it. Even worse, it happened sooner than I feared. So I woke up to the news that the New York Jets fired Robert Saleh as their head coach. I knew this would happen. The only thing I was guilty of was believing that they'd actually give him a full fourth season. So let's look at Saleh's history, shall we? He's only 45 years old, yet he's been in the NFL as a coach for 20 years. After four seasons coaching at the collegiate level, Saleh--at the age of 26--joined the Houston Texans as a defensive intern in 2005. He spent six seasons on Houston's staff before joining the Seattle Seahawks as their defensive quality control coach. Saleh spent three seasons with Seattle before spending another three as the linebackers coach for the Jacksonville Jaguars.

NFL Week 5 Recap: You Like That?!?!
Week 5 was absolutely eventful, wasn't it?! The game was full of wild moments, close calls, and in the case of a few games, a lot of offense. And it all started with an NFC South battle between the Atlanta Falcons and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Thursday Night Football. Now, with the exception of Opening Day and the Thanksgiving games, Thursday Night Football gets a bad rap. The games have been criticized as being boring and featuring teams no one cares about. Even when some playoff scenarios involve some December TNF games, the slot gets highly scrutinized.

Reviewing Raquel Rodriguez's Villainous Return at WWE's Bad Blood
We all saw it coming, but what we did not see was how slightly messy it was. Even so, it was pretty cool and I loved it. So the first Bad Blood event in 20 years featured, among other things, the Women's World Championship contest between Rhea Ripley and Liv Morgan. It's been a long uphill battle for Rhea ever since she returned from injury. Liv's sinister Revenge Tour saw her succeed in taking everything from Rhea: her faction, Dom, and in Liv's mind, her title, but Rhea never lost that title.

2024 Division Series Preview
This year features a milestone in baseball history. On Saturday, October 5, the 30th edition of MLB's Division Series will kick off. This doesn't include the makeshift version that was featured in 1981. The Division Series officially began in the 1995 season, replacing the League Championship Series as the opening round of the postseason. Originally, one series featured the #1 seed against the league's lone Wild Card, while the other pitted the other two division winners against each other. If the #1 seed and the Wild Card were in the same division, then the Wild Card faced the #2 team, and #1 would face #3. That changed with the introduction of the Wild Card Game in 2012, which was modified into the Wild Card Series in 2022.

What Went Wrong: You Have to Play TWENTY-SEVEN Innings, Brewers
I was happy that this Wild Card Series went the maximum three games, because that hadn't been happening a lot. Our first taste of the Wild Card Series came in the COVID-shortened 2020 season, and that was done to make up for the shortened regular season, similar to the extra "bubble" games in the NHL and NBA. Out of the eight series played (in a best-of-three format), only two went the max. Since the Wild Card Series became a permanent staple in 2022, only one series went the max. This series between the New York Mets and the Milwaukee Brewers became the third to go the full three games.

CFL Week 17 Recap: How the East Was Won
I have been tied up writing about the NFL and baseball's postseason, that I've been admittedly lazy when it comes to writing about the CFL. I have been watching the games for sure. One game I definitely watched was Week 17's finale between the Toronto Argonauts and the Montréal Alouettes, and this was an important one--mainly for the Boatmen. We were falling behind in the Eastern standings, but thankfully, we did managed to get things going against the reigning, defending, undisputed Grey Cup Champions. The Argos won, 37-31, and stayed alive in the playoff hunt.

Top Scoring Players on Fantasy Football (Week 4)
Fantasy Football is closing in on the end of that early period of the season, that exact moment that determines whether or not your team(s) have a legit shot at something good. Regarding Week 4, it was quite an interesting week in the world of Fantasy Football. Some overachieving, some shocking underachieving, and all very wild during the last NFL week of September.

What Went Wrong: Were Injuries REALLY the Problem?
You know, we really should be commending the Atlanta Braves this season. After all, this team had so many injuries on the squad. Key players from all positions. Ronald Acuna, Jr. was out yet again. It was a disaster, yet the Braves survived. They rose from the proverbial ashes and persevered. The Braves managed to snag one of the National League's three Wild Card spots, doing so in the second game of the makeshift doubleheader that was played on September 30.

What Went Wrong: 18 Innings, One Run
Last year, the Baltimore Orioles won 101 games; their best season in good bit. The expectations were high for the O's that year, but in a shocker, they were swept by the Texas Rangers, who went on to win the World Series. That was taken as a learning experience for that group, and it was believed that the following year would see the Orioles continue to flourish. Sure enough, that's what happened. Well, from March to mid-August, at least.
