Halloween Kills Movie Review
There are horror franchises. And then there are the big daddies of the genre – the legends that made horror everything that it is today. Halloween – along with its iconic antagonist Michael Myers – belongs firmly in the “legends” category, so a new addition is always a big deal. But Halloween Kills, the direct sequel to 2018’s Halloween soft reboot and the twelfth installment of the franchise as a whole, is in a class by itself as far as anticipation goes.

Malignant Film Review
By now, James Wan has more than proven he has the chops to crank out a big, splashy, family-friendly blockbuster like Aquaman, but many of his fans still love him best for horror masterpieces like The Conjuring and Insidious. This year’s Malignant found him going back to his roots for the first time in a while and trying his hand at another gory, over-the-top horror flick. But is this film definitive proof that he’s still got it, or is Mr. Wan better off sticking to superhero movies at this point?

The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It
At this point, you’d have to be living under a rock not to have heard of the Conjuring universe and seen at least a couple of the films. When James Wan’s The Conjuring made its debut in 2013, it turned out to be more than just a reasonably decent haunted house movie. It launched a billion-dollar horror franchise that remains wildly popular to this day.

Honeydew Movie Review
If you’re a big fan of folk horror, then Devereux Milburn’s feature debut Honeydew just might appeal to you. It’s got the heavy atmosphere of The Witch, disturbing rural characters that might remind you of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, and plenty of grotesque details to tempt gore lovers. It stars Sawyer Spielberg (yes, as in the son of Steven), Malin Barr, Barbara Kingsley, and Stephen D’Ambrose, among others. Milburn also co-wrote the film alongside talented cinematographer-producer Dan Kennedy.

Held (2020) Review
If you’re a fan of The Gallows and its sequel The Gallows: Act II, then you’re already familiar with Travis Cluff and Chris Lofing, the directing duo behind both films. Held is their latest offering, a tech-era tale of a long-standing marriage in trouble. It stars Jill Awbrey and Bart Johnson in the two leads and Rez Kempton, Zack Gold, Jener Dasilva, and Tessa Munro in small supporting roles. (Awbrey also penned the screenplay for the film.)

Castle Freak (2020) Review
Fans of Stuart Gordon’s 1995 genre masterpiece Castle Freak didn’t need to be told that Tate Steinsiek sure had his work cut out for him when he decided to tackle a remake this past year. Like many of his other works, Gordon’s Castle Freak did a magnificent job bringing the work of writing legend H.P. Lovecraft to life while putting his own trademark spin on it. Then there’s the strong opinion so many horror fans seem to have against remakes in general. So, how does Steinsiek’s Castle Freak 2020 stack up against the original? And more importantly, is it worth your time, or are you better off simply rewatching Gordon’s original camp masterpiece?

What Lies Below Movie Review
There are lots of reasons What Lies Below sounds incredibly promising at first glance. It takes a decent stab at marrying two drastically underrated horror subcategories – the aquatic creature feature and the story of the mysterious interloper. It brings some genuinely remarkable talents together, including the very talented Ema Horvath (The Gallows Act II) and the always delightful Mena Suvari (Don’t Blink), as well, so there’s plenty here to whet a genre fan’s appetite. Don't Look Back (2020) Review
If you loved the "destiny eventually comes for us all" approach of the Final Destination franchise, then the chances are pretty good you'll like Don't Look Back, and with good reason. (Jeffrey Reddick, the illustrious writer of the now-iconic Destination films, also wrote and directed Don't Look Back.) The tagline "karma comes for us all" promises a similar ride, but does it deliver? And is this horror film covering ground that's perhaps too familiar to make it worth seeing in the first place?

Film Review: The Shed
If you like creature features with a twist, 2019’s The Shed may well be on your radar already. Directed by Frank Sabatella (The House That Cried Blood), it stars Jay Jay Warren, Cody Kostro, Frank Whaley (Cold Moon, Vacancy), and Timothy Bottoms (Vampire Bats), among others. It’s part vampire movie and part dysfunctional family story – an interesting combination to be sure. It also attempts to mix horror and gore with a touch of comedy.
