burned away my old life; in the dust, found something I could hold on to.

wine heaviness set my tongue ablaze with harsh words that I didn’t mean.
mirror refracted sun-tether, one wrong angle, and the whole house burned.
I don’t know when the fire in me went out. I just know that it’s gone now.
maybe if we lay perfectly still, the green earth will grow around us.
Five words, so quickly took the wind right out of my frightened, hopeful sails.
ten extinguished flames. smoke cleared, he thought-I outlived my older brother.
