The Love of Flying
Fanny pulled the hat brim close to her face, blocking anyone from a clear view. She must look like a newspaper boy between the hat and the paper rattling in her hands. She felt a barely controlled excitement as the plane taxied down the runway. She felt the world changing around her.

Faces in the Mirror
The mirror showed a reflection that wasn't my own. The images are swirling amidst a deep fog that dances across the mirror’s circumference. Shapes form and reform never fully materializing. My face isn’t there. I watch in fascination as the swirling slows and an image begins to form. My pulse races and I feel a penetrating fear deep in my gut. I don’t want to see this. Ice cold horror pumps through my veins as a face begins to surface. I cover my eyes and briefly peak through my fingers, quickly slamming those slits into another reality closed. Backing slowly from the bathroom, I turn to run. My feet feel mired in quicksand sucking me down, down, down. Each step is painful and slow. My heart pounds in my ears as I struggle to gain traction.

Working During the Pandemic
It is full dark outside, and my alarm is not quite ready to announce the beginning of the day. Kitty is gently batting my face letting me know that she is hungry. I yawn and stretch and prepare to get out of bed and start my day. Kitty slinks down the bed slowly stretching her front legs, her whole body, and then her back legs before jumping to the ground and trotting towards the kitchen and food bowls. At 17 years of age (that is mid-80s in human years), she is sleek and graceful and moves with ease. In comparison, I move slowly and stiffly feeling every year of age on my body. It is day 443 of the pandemic and teleworking continues. No wonder I’m stiff and sore. Not enough exercise or moving around. Not enough outside connection.

The Black Bayou Monster
Once Upon a Time. As a child, those four little words made me giddy. They continue to cast a spell today. My Mom fostered the love of reading in my brothers and I. My Grandad and my Dad fostered the love of storytelling. They were masters at it. We loved hearing stories and we loved telling stories. I am entering as evidence; we kids got very creative with our stories about what we were up to.

The Locket
The trifecta of misery hit hard in the summer of 2040 leaving the world’s population reeling from another pandemic, shortages in the food supply, and curfews implemented by the new world government. The new world government portrays itself as being for the people, the protection of the people. Sometimes, your protector is your oppressor.
