Hire Local!
Earlier this year, I was laid off from a job I held for 15 years. In that time, I progressed from a Junior DBA for a startup company to a Senior DBA (likely on the verge to take over as management) of a company created out of a divestiture of the same product by a Fortune 500 company. At the time I was laid off, 132 of my very talented co-workers were also laid off. Most of us had been with the product since it's creation.

70+ Days of Turmoil
During Barack Obama’s term as President, a chain email went out reporting about his appointment of “czars”. Now, Presidents before him had done the same thing. You see, “czar” is just a term: “a person appointed by government to advise on and coordinate policy in a particular area.” All US presidents make appointments of people to various positions in their administration. What caused controversy was the use of the word “czars” to describe these appointments.

Job Search Frustrations
Last month, I found myself jobless for the first time in my adult life. I was laid off for what my company called "financial restructuring". I later discovered while searching job boards that this was simply another way of the company saying they were sending my job overseas...where they could get someone to do my job for less than half of what they were paying me. But that is a whole other topic in itself!

Let Them Eat Cake!
The country is waking up this morning to the news that President Trump and his wife have tested positive for COVID-19. As the White House scrambles to determine who all has been exposed, and candidate VP Joe Biden gets tested after sharing the stage with Trump during the debate, what we may see in the coming weeks will likely be a spotlight on the disparity of healthcare between the classes in this country!

What Congress Must Do In 2021
This week will be a very telling week. President Trump announced his Supreme Court nomination on Saturday, and the Senate has vowed to immediately take up her confirmation. Tuesday night sees the first debate between candidates Trump and Biden. Trump's tax returns appear to have been revealed, and many are in an uproar over the fact that he has paid fewer taxes than a restaurant server or grocery clerk. As colder weather is rolling for autumn, COVID-19 numbers have again begun to rise. The election is just over a month away. This next week could be a turning point in campaigns for the many Senate and House seats up for grabs. The hope is that the Democrats can keep control of the House, and turn control of the Senate.

Your Vote Does Count!
I know many people are finding themselves concerned with reports the last couple of days of Trump indicating there will not be a peaceful transition of power. The very fact the administration is suggesting this is even more reason to get out and vote!

Are We Seeing the End of Democracy?
I have said since 2016...since the election results were confirmed...Trump will not leave power quietly! Many over the years have told me that my "hate" for our President comes from the media telling me what to think. I don't need the media to convince me that this man should have never been elected to the highest office in the nation. I've been here for a while, and I have a really good memory. Before social media...before the vast internet.

Immigration Is Not The Problem
During the pandemic lockdown, millions of Americans lost their jobs. Months later, many of our service and retail personnel are returning to work as reopenings happen all across the country. However, our unemployment numbers stay high, with thousands of new claims being reported every month. Where are these new claims coming from with so many going back to work?

The Dangers of Extremism
World War II...bombings in Ireland...September 11th... The one thing all of these things have in common is extremism! Extremism..."the holding of extreme political or religious views." Extremism is something that is on the rise in the United States. Once a term only used to refer to terrorist activities in other parts of the world, it is now a word that can be used to define many on all sides of what is going on right now in this country. We live in a time when people, right here in our own country, will take things to the extreme in order to assert their beliefs. This can lead too wild, and dangerous, conspiracies as a means to rile up the masses. With today's access to social media, such consipiracies are quickly spread.
