My Blackness Is Me
My blackness is not defined by my whirly, curly, stringy hair, nor by my sway, my stride, or my fly. It is not defined by my different complexions of dark skin, nor is it defined by my boisterous disposition. It is not defined by the pain I've felt for my fellow black folk in trouble, nor is it defined by the hatred of this world and pride of colors. My blackness is defined by my over exaggerated want for knowledge, and the wisdom I provide to my children. It is defined by my heart, and giving gold to others. My blackness is a part of me; it does not define me. It does not see wrong or right, nor does it see black or white. It explains there's a part of me that you've never seen before. It describes a part of where the culture has taken over standards. It shows a part of the inner me that very few are privileged to see...it shows my blackness is me!
