The False Summer of 2025
If you stepped outside in early February 2025 in Boone, North Carolina, and thought you had somehow skipped a few months into spring, you weren’t alone. Winter took a surprising pause as temperatures soared well above seasonal norms. In Boone, where February typically means chilly mornings and the possibility of snowfall, residents instead enjoyed balmy 60-degree weather, a stark contrast to the usual highs in the mid-40s. But what caused this so-called “fake spring,” and what are the potential consequences of such unusual midwinter warmth?

The Truth about Getting a Job in Conservation. AI-Generated.
When I graduated in May 2024 with a degree in wildlife biology, I thought I’d land a job pretty quickly. I had the degree, the internships, and the passion—what more could employers want? But reality hit hard.

Call of the Wild
Working with wildlife was something Ethan Parker had always known he wanted to do. He had wanted to work as a wildlife scientist since he was a young boy and saved a wounded falcon. He pictured himself hiking through thick rainforests, tagging wolves that were in risk of going extinct, or getting involved in conservation initiatives to conserve endangered species.

Who's There? - A Short Story of Mystery, Crime, and Fiction
“Who’s there?” The answer was the clicking of a light switching on and off, and the wind gushing through the broken window. The light above swayed in the wind creating eerie shadows against the walls as the light flickered at a steady pace. A trembling sigh escaped the girl, her voice echoing in the empty building. She could have sworn she heard someone or something move. Her hands couldn’t stop shaking. The stone walls around her were stained with brown splatters. She couldn’t tell if it were simply dirt or blood. She ignored the logical side which told her it was blood; she didn’t want to believe it. Her footsteps echoed throughout the hall, forming a rhythm with the creaking lights.

Stop Bad Mouthing Sharks
Shark attacks are something many people fear when they go to the beach, surf, or scuba dive. The fear of the large jaws with multiple rows of teeth which can easily bite off a limb swarms the minds of people. Many might believe that sharks are out to get humans just like many movies show. Jaws was the kickstart to this fear. The four-movie series movie has the shark coming back to attach again and again. Sharks are marine animals which travel thousands of miles each year. The Great White Shark is even said to travel up to 50 miles per day. It’s very rare for a shark to attack again as they are continously moving. Most sharks cannot stop moving or they would die. If they do not have water moving through their gills they are unable to breath.

Colors in Spring
Colors danced across the sky in a brilliant fashion. Wings contrasted from the light blue background. Chirps and tweets chased the wind among the chaos of moving colors. Avians hurried around town in order to get their final preparations for the cloacal kiss. They went from place to place picking up last-minute items- gowns, suits, desserts, gifts. Men dressed to match the bright colors of their wings; reds, blues, greens, oranges, and more. They carried gifts and food in hopes to impress.

Shake It Off - Dance Workouts
Cardio - The dreaded word that many people fear. Trust me, so do I- at least I used to. Before finding this fun way to burn some calories and sweat, I dreaded cardio. Running was not something I really did not do due to my knees or I just simply found it to be boring (I apologize to those who enjoy it). So was just doing lunges, jumping jacks, and more in a certain order.

Understanding Keystone Species
Sisters, brothers, cousins, parents, grandparents, and more are just part of what makes up a family. There are also friends, friends-friends, acquaintances, and strangers. Each group has its own social web of interactions with each other and without one these interactions wouldn't happen. Each person has the acquaintance they would only hang out with if their friend was there.

Is it a bug, alien, or the government? Those random itches
Do you know those sharp itches which make you jump out of your seat? I for sure do. I've hit my knee against the table a few too many times to not know about them. The itches pop up at random times often surprising the victim. It's like a little prick of a needle against your skin which makes your whole leg jump. Just like the exercise performed by the doctor with the tomahawk (otherwise called the Taylor) to test your reflexes. Without any say from yourself, your leg bounces forward on instinct.
