Sally shrieked with joy as she swirled around with the water and down the drain.  Her mother yelled after her, “have fun.” 

 As a young soap bubble, she had always wanted to see what was down there at the bottom of the drain and Mom had finally granted her permission. “Dad will pick you up at the end of the day. Just be sure to be back at the bottom of the drain. Summer is almost over and school starts next week.”

 As she floated to the bottom and looked up, she gasped with sheer excitement. There were lots of other bubble kids running around and laughing. She took her first tentative steps into the Underworld of Bubbles.

 Her first stop was at the Valley of Green where all the kids were sliding down a huge hill of salad leftovers.  She grabbed a piece of Romaine and ran up the hill to take her turn.  Squealing with delight, she took turn after turn until she grew too tired to run up the hill again.

 She moved on to the Village of Carrot Peels where the café was set for drinks and snacks for all who had grown tired of the Valley of Green slide. Sally sat for a while, rested, had two glasses of fresh dishwater and moved on.

 The Territory of Taters was a very dull looking spot but Sally decided to check it out anyway. The art tables set up for all the bubble kids to produce art projects to take home was wonderful.  She used all the glitter, glue, potato peels and butter that she could to make a sculpture for her mother.  “May I leave it here to pick up later?” she asked the Director of Potatoes. “Of course,” he answered.

Egg Shell Canyon was a steep climb down but it looked like a worthwhile trip. She could see all the kids skating around on the frozen land. It was a pretty swirl of frozen egg yolks with crushed egg shells making it look all glittery.  Skates were available from the Egg Shell Executive. 

 Sally donned her skates and spent the next hour flying around the Canyon with the other kids. By the time she was done, she could do a near perfect spin, spraying egg shells all over the frozen yolk.  She returned her skates and thanked the Executive for loaning them to her. “You are most welcome,” he answered. “You can climb out of the canyon up those stairs” as he pointed to the exit.

 Sally ran off toward Fly with the Flies Field.  Other bubble kids were waiting their turn to mount their fly for their flight around the Underworld of Bubbles. She was very nervous as she had never flown before, but so excited to try it. She was told her flies name was Freddy, as she climbed aboard. “Giddyup Freddy,” she yelled as she giggled with glee. Her flight was about 20 minutes and by that time, Freddy was getting tired of flapping his little wings. “Freddy, take a break,” said the Fly with the Flies Supervisor.  “Did you have fun?” he asked Sally. “Oh, ever so much. Thank you!”

One more spot to see before heading for the bottom of the drain to meet Dad. The last sign pointed her to the Strawberry Kingdom where she could climb into a hollowed out strawberry and be pulled around by a team of ants. “This is so much fun. I can’t wait to come back here every day.”

 Sally finished her ride and climbed back onto the path toward the bottom of the drain.  As she approached, she saw her Dad waiting for her. She was so excited to tell him about her day, and as Dad took her hand, with a large smile on her face, he looked at her and they popped together.

Such is the life in the day of a bubble kid.
