Exploring the Mysteries of Padmanabhaswamy Temple
Padmanabhaswamy Temple is a Hindu temple located in Thiruvananthapuram, the capital city of Kerala state in India. The temple is dedicated to Lord Vishnu, who is worshipped here in the form of Padmanabhaswamy (meaning "Lord of the lotus-naveled"). The temple is considered one of the 108 Divya Desams, which are important pilgrimage centers for Vaishnavites (followers of Lord Vishnu). It is also one of the wealthiest temples in India, with extensive treasures and assets that have been the subject of much media attention and controversy. The temple's architecture is a blend of Kerala and Dravidian styles, with a gopuram (tower) on the eastern side and a series of mandapams (pillared halls) leading to the inner sanctum. The idol of Lord Padmanabhaswamy is reclining on the serpent Anantha, which is believed to represent the cosmic serpent Shesha. The temple is also known for its strict dress code and other rituals that are followed by devotees and visitors. The temple is a popular tourist attraction and a significant cultural and religious landmark in Kerala.
