Enemies To Lovers 5: Tears Of Gratitude
As time passed, Joanna grew more and more puzzled by her captor's behavior. If he indeed considered her inferior because of her race, why did he at times seem to go out of his way to be kind to her? Was it possible he'd grown to no longer see her as an object, but as a person, a woman, even? Yet if that were true, why was he still cruel most of the time?

A Special Treat 3: Wedding and Honeymoon
The wedding ended up being performed, ironically enough, by a minister friend of Cliff's. Kim's old friend from her off-off-Broadway days was trying to make it in La-La Land as well and had arranged for the minister to perform the marriage of his old friend to his former nemesis. Cliff had known about, and strongly disapproved of, Kim's relationship with the Russian spy, and he'd been elated when she'd broken off the relationship and joined Amanda and the others in Nebraska. Now that the Cold War had ended, Cliff's distrust of Andrei had mellowed as well, and he was happy for Kim that she'd been reunited with the man she'd never stopped loving.

Enemies To Lovers: Pain
On the train Joanna sat beside Schiller, and the two dour-faced Nazi officers sat across from them. Nobody said a word as the rustic scenery flew past. Joanna couldn't help but enjoy her comfortable seat, view to the outside and, most important of all, adequate fresh air to breathe. She could feel Schiller's arm pressing against her own, his muscles firm against the material of their clothing, and inside she felt a faint flicker of the desire that had flared inside her at her first sight of his naked chest.

Enemies To Lovers 12: Reinhart
"What are you thinking about?" Jurgen asked after a few minutes. Joanna wasn't sure how to respond. She recalled Jurgen's anger when she'd spoken of her family to him before. Although that now seemed light years ago, her fear of arousing his ire remained.

Enemies To Lovers 9: Searching
It's all over, the voice inside his head chanted, mocking him. You're nothing but a helpless cripple. Of what use could you possibly be to the Third Reich now? His family would be ashamed of him and would never want to see him again.

Enemies To Lovers 1: The Arrival
Poland 1942 Joanna Finklestein's body slumped against the sweaty form of one of untold thousands of unfortunates. After hours on her feet, she was much too tired to stand, yet there was no room to lie down nor even to sit in the cramped boxcar. The air inside her totally dark prison reeked of sweat, urine, vomit, and even more unpleasant smells that she didn't even want to consider the source of. She felt as if she would suffocate, yet she willed herself to keep inhaling the fetid air, in futile hope of benefiting from what little fresh oxygen might remain in it.

A Night To Remember
As soon as Robert entered his wife's chambers, he could tell that there was something different about this evening. The fragrance of incense wafted seductively in the air, and he gasped in surprise when he saw what Elizabeth was wearing. It was the very revealing negligee he had bought her in Paris, and she was also wearing his favorite perfume. For him it was a welcome sight after a hard day of hunting.
