In the Furthest Parts of the Mind
Standing on a ledge, with no idea what’s below. Deep in the farthest part of my mind there is a barren forest: Uncertainty casts shadows that manifest into trees; Heartache stills frigid air that settles heavily on the forest floor, where I lay my head.

 . . . They tried to make it work with you. They showed you deep, genuine care and love. Maybe they didn’t always live up to expectations, maybe sometimes they didn’t match your energy—they had their own internal struggles, they weren’t an extension of you, they were their own person.
