3 freedoms I don't have in America
When I moved to the United States on a professional TN work visa, my expectations were high. I am a Canadian native and until recently, had been living in Canada my whole life. I was able to secure a position in Florida as a social worker (one of the 60 NAFTA professions). Unfortunately, this position did not offer the kind of job stability I was accustomed to living and working in Canada. This conundrum lead to more unexpected issues that have me questioning if living and working in the USA is all that better. Today, I wanted to share a few realities that hit me in my journey from The Great White North to the Sunshine State.

To Avoid Panic, Outrage, and Predictability
To avoid panic, outrage, and predictability. Something is discovered and acknowledged in secret. This could be contained, if we only tell the truth and stop it now. But no, the shame of the discovery; it should be repressed and perhaps not be noticed. But then it grows and grows. Its as if ignorance has unleashed a great curse amongst the world. And the world’s response is to repress and minimize this discovery. For at every stage we assume that, “no, this could not be that bad.” But our denial is the spiral into the void which causes us to suffer the cancer that is inside us, shame.

I'm Growing Weed in a Cardboard 'Dollar Store' Grow Box
While growing cannabis is an art and I am not a true master of the soil, my goal is not to grow "the best" cannabis plant. My goal is grow a consumable cannabis plant for the least amount of money possible. It's no secret that I am a user of medical cannabis. I have found so many benefits from using this plant. I am also known for being thrifty. After some discussion with my wife, I figured I would invest some money in a grow box.I logged on my Amazon account and did some online window shopping. "They want how much for a tent?" I was interested in buying a full kit, but as a person who does not believe in credit cards; I just could not stomach seeing that money fly out of my account for a tent, a fan, and some lights.I found some online videos and other references of how to create a cardboard home grow box. I'm not going to lie, a lot of these looked more like a kindergarten class assembled it.

How Having a Bad Boss Put Me $10,000 in Debt
Before I get started, I want to address the clickbait title. My boss at the time was only one ingredient in a cocktail of depressing life circumstances. However, the experience of working for a toxic person, in a toxic work environment is what loaded the gun. My income and personal choices is what pulled the trigger. At the end of the day, I am the person in the driver’s seat, so I am accountable for all that happened in the following story.

I am 28 years old, and through an impulse to buy Canadian marijuana stocks I got into investing. Since I made the leap from employee to entrepreneur, I don’t contribute to a pension or employer retirement plan. My wife’s father is in retirement now, they have a nice home and a decent nest egg.

Four Uncomfortable Truths About “The Left”
Before I get into this, I want to play my “minority card” granting me the power of immunity to personal attacks about my perceived privilege. I hope by the time you finished reading this post the following declaration will be redundant. I am a masculine looking gay woman, I grew up poor, and I am half native. I also live with a mental illness, but I mean who doesn’t these days? My point is while my stats indicate I am not a typical person of “privilege,” my education and my bank account would state otherwise. I graduated at the University of Calgary with a bachelor of social work. I basically have a degree in oppression. We were always encouraged to advocate for people in-need. While I do agree with many of the principals and philosophies of social work I've seen being a "social justice warrior" become bastardized, and hijacked by today's youth in the name of leftist politics. Here are four uncomfortable truths about "the left" that more conservative thinkers and politically centered folk find cringey and foolish.

Overcoming Obstacles & Redefining Failure
I am a person who has embarked on several new beginnings in my life. I have moved to new cities, taken on challenging jobs, completed university, and fallen in love. One thing I have recognized is that during every one of my achievements I have been burdened with many obstacles. Like, things that should go smoothly, and otherwise should have been simple. But then they drag on, and I must decide “Is this a sign I should stop?” or “Is this a test?”

'Riverdale': A Coming of Age Story
'Riverdale': A Coming of Age Story When I first saw the CW trailer for the show, Riverdale I was amused and skeptical. The idea of all our favorite goody-two-shoe bathroom comic friends transformed into sexy soap stars was as bizarre as it was intriguing. I went from passively enjoying the drama, to anxiously awaiting each new episode every week. We have been exposed to Ms. Grundy’s forbidden and very illegal romance with Archie Andrews, the Southside Serpents' gang violence, Betty’s interesting and awkward sexualized dark-side, and so much more. Riverdale is a community whose justice system seems to depend on teenagers meddling in police investigations. This makes me wonder when a sexy Scooby Doo soap will be syndicated on the CW — I would probably watch it. Jughead, whose character is far more interesting and complex than I had expected, writes for the local school newspaper which has as much political relevance as CNN. It is through Jughead’s narratives we are exposed to what I believe is the main theme of Riverdale: teenagers coming of age. Let’s examine the four main characters to support my view.
