I watched out my bedroom window. Today was the day of my betrothal ceremony and it was all I could think about it. My eyes drifted to the wet landscape, unusual weather for this time of year. the air was humid and difficult to bear. I turned away from the window and my eye caught on a picture that hung from my wall. It was a picture of my mom and I sitting in the grass just outside the palace where I lived as the prince of my clan. My sister Calissa had painted it a while ago when I was just a kid and she was newly betrothed.

I woke that night with nightmares unlike I've ever had before. They were full of despair, malice, and destruction from things I'd never seen before. Magic created terror among the people, and all I could do was watch as it tore everything apart. But there was one thing that caught my eye. The one creating the destruction wasn't someone that I knew. It was a woman that I hadn't seen before.

PART 1: FROST It was a beautiful morning despite the cloudy blanket of gray that covered the sky. As I tilted my face upward, I could feel the light, small snowflakes fall on my cheeks as they trickled down from the sky. A chilly wind swept by me, causing me to shiver. But I didn't care. The landscape was gorgeous, with a thick layer of snow that covered both the ground and the trees.
