What Is the Keto Diet? The keto diet is a high-fat, low-carbohydrate diet that forces the body to burn fat for fuel. When you eat fewer carbs and more fat, your body enters a state called ketosis. In ketosis, your body uses ketones (a byproduct of fat breakdown) for energy instead of glucose (a type of sugar). This way, you can still have a balanced diet while getting the weight-loss benefits of a ketogenic diet.
