Blue. Top Story - September 2023. Content Warning.
Read these first: Red Orange Yellow Green Six months after the funeral The blue couch sinks under my weight as I adjust my body again, trying to find some sort of comfort. The woman, unfortunately, focuses on watering her jungle of succulents rather than on me. Otherwise, I could blame my growing anxiety on the weight of her stare and not on what she just asked me.

I Wrote My Way Out
I am not supposed to be here. Alive, on this stage, at this place. Alive. I should have died when I was born. That was something that The Devil Con Man of Pembrooke drilled into me. Not because of my mother's body threatening my life from the moment I existed in her womb. Not because the same thing providing me life wrapped around my throat, choking me as I came into the world. No, he never said it as admiration, as a thing of pride that I beat the odds. It was a weapon he kept jabbing into my sides, bleeding me of my joy and self-respect.

Green. Content Warning.
Read these first: *** Three months after the funeral "Gabe!" I race over to the green slide where I last saw Andrea. She is on the ground, her hoodie and jeans covered in wood shavings and blood. A looming shadow of a man stands over her, grinning evilly.

Yellow. Top Story - August 2023. Content Warning.
Make sure to read these first. *** A month after the funeral The first thing I noticed when I walked in her old room was the peeling yellow paint on the exposed brick. Then the small pen mark from the time a three-year-old Andrea drew on the wall and Mom couldn't wipe away the last bit. A trail of petite red stain creating a path from the bathroom to the bedroom entrance, the notches on the door frames.

The 'H' is for Hyper
I have never been ashamed of my ADHD. But I have been thoroughly frustrated by it. *** I was diagnosed at four years old. Then, ADHD, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, was a term used for those who had a hard time focusing or staying still for long periods of time. Though, that may be true, that is not all there is to ADHD.

Under the Oak Tree (An Inkling of Novel)
Before we get to the critiquing... At this point, this 'prologue' is part of a romantic fiction short story I am hoping to enter into the Vocal Writing Awards. (VWAs). But what I noticed as I planned it, I had the makings of a novel idea.

Pick a song that represents summer for you. Use the song as the title of your piece, and to inspire either a poem or a short story/micro fiction about summer. Feel free to use some of the song's lyrics in your piece as well, and add a link to the song so we can hear it too.
