The Downfall of the MCU
There has been lots of comments since the MCU released Endgame about Marvel no longer producing anything of quality. Phrases like “superhero fatigue” “go woke, go broke” and “quantity over quality” get thrown around a lot and they are all wrong. Those phrases have actually no actual validity to them whatsoever. The MCU is the same as it's always been, very little has changed.

Infinity Pool
There is a history of horror movies getting undervalued by awards season. Last year one in particular that drew attention was Mia Goth and her performance in Pearl. The movie as a whole was absolutely snubbed as its quality could most definitely go toe to toe with anything nominated last year. But we will have a more in depth discussion on that later. Pearl won me over and I will now watch anything that stars Mia Goth. Which brings me to Infinity Pool. I am now presenting my formal review for Mia Goth’s latest appearance, Infinity Pool.

Godzilla Minus One
So we went to see Godzilla Minus One. Now this was my first Godzilla movie ever, I was going in with absolutely no context or history. I went into this movie the same way I’m sure a lot of Americans did, ready for a monster movie. The trailer also kind of hyped up that angle. So I went in ready to watch Godzilla tear some shit up. What I was not ready for was a heartfelt story about a man finding the will to live, commentary on survivor's guilt and the devastations of war and the power of forgiveness.

Dream Scenario
Okay so Nicholas Cage has a new movie out. Now at this point we should know that I am not a Nicholas Cage fan. I think 90% of his filmography is absolute garbage and that he is one of the most overrated, below mediocre actors of all time. On the other hand this latest film, Dream Scenario, is also a product of A24. And they have only disappointed me once, their track record is fantastic. So we are combining one of my all time favorite sources of films with one of the things I hate the most about film. So here is my full review of Dream Scenario.

The Boys Prep
It has been longer than expected for the fourth season of The Boys to come out. And we more than appreciate the solidarity from Erik Kripke with the writers strike but that means that we may have forgotten some major points. So if you don’t plan on rewatching season 3 before season 4 comes out we are here to recap all the things that you need to remember.

Oscar Bait
As Oscar season approaches more and more of the internet wants to act like they know things about film. Terms like “Oscar-bait” get thrown around a lot with absolutely no thought into what that term means. Just because Meryl Streep is in a movie doesn’t make it Oscar-bait. So let's talk about what that phrase actually means and maybe what movies of this year actually qualify.

A Haunting in Venice
A perfect film for spooky season it seems. A Haunting in Venice was released in October and though the trailer did not give anything away really as far as plot was concerned the draw for me was Michelle Yeoh’s presence. And it is an Oscar contender so here we go with the review of A Haunting in Venice.

Shazam, Fury of the Gods
Okay so I am a huge fan of the first Shazam movie, I think the Shazam family is great (there was a new comic this year that was awesome) and honestly I just love yelling SHAZAM! That said, when I found out there was going to be a second one I was excited, then I saw the trailer and my excitement waned a little bit. And of course the general public's reaction was not great. But we know I don’t really care about public opinion. I love Rachel Ziegler so let's see how this goes. This is my official review of Shazam, Fury of the Gods.

Love Again
When I saw the trailer for Love Again I knew it was going to be a movie that made me cry. I also knew that I would see anything with Priyanka in it so I was pretty excited to see it. Then we never got around to seeing it in theaters. And enter Netflix to save the day so we are finally watching Love Again and here is my formal review.

Love at First Sight
Sometimes it's hard to remember that films released on streaming services are eligible for Oscars, probably because it feels like that should not be a thing. But since it is, I am making a conscious effort to watch and review anything and everything that is eligible. There is absolutely no way I am going to get through everything but if nothing else it adds to the data of films for 2023. So our next review is going to be Love at First Sight released on Netflix.

Ranking the Animated Movies
2023 was an amazing year for films of all genres but there were also an impressive amount of animated movies. Now I am a defender of animation forever. Mostly because the Academy and some of the general public seem to think that animation is inherently for children and not respected appropriately as an artform. That said, I love animated movies so they are getting their own article. We are ranking the animated movies of 2023 from worst to best. Like with a lot of lists I’ve made, I don’t think any of these movies were bad; we are just going from less good to great.

Super Mario Bros. The Movie
One of the biggest film releases this year was The Super Mario Brothers movie. It's one we never got around to seeing but as Oscar season approaches it is time for me to catch up. It is the highest grossing film based on a video game and one of 2023’s highest performing movies grossing over a billion dollars globally. That said we should all know by now that the general public is usually wrong in matters of film critique so that really means nothing to me. So here we go with my review of The Super Mario Brothers movie.
