Hunger and the Bear
Everything north of the great river belonged to the beast. A fact held throughout the forest and even spread beyond the trees. Because none matched him in might, only cunning could be brought against the beast. So, when the snow sank back into the earth and the beast emerged from his den, stomping out onto the fertile soil, the hunter decided to make his move and reclaim the land. So the forest whispered war.

The Precariously Candid Account of a Plane Crash Sole Survivor
It’s a strange thing to wonder whether or not you’ve lost consciousness. It’s even stranger to be sure that you didn’t when you actually did. There’s also the joy of feeling unscathed, accompanied by the fear of feeling a little too numb. Your body may scream danger while your mind covers it up. The pilots must be pretty fucking good at their job, I thought. But when I looked past my own body—at the shadow of what once surrounded me—I realized that I couldn’t possibly have survived. I must be one of the unlucky few to see myself die twice.

People Like cake
“Slice it any way you want; it’s cake all the way down. Think about it. What’s the peak of it all? You could be having sex, snorting coke, or eating a double fudge layered chocolate cake. Caipirinha
Perfect white silk is spun over rotting hay and senescent support beams. Her homemade blankets will not only keep her warm but make a home of this putrefied shelter. Exiled together, at least they comfort each other. Though she will always have people concerned about her, watching out for her, this rundown barn will show her the ways of being forgotten. She will be safe here. And finally, she will be valued. Perhaps she will drive down the local wood-eating insect population. Some would say that her species is an unnecessary evil, but this tenement will teach her otherwise. She has a place here. The hustle and bustle of the favelas with their ungrateful occupants drove her out into the mountains, and although she came here willingly, imagining it to be for the best, about her former abode she still thinks, I wish I was there.

Orphaned
Inside a child's wardrobe, covered in pink shirts and plasma-proof vests, hidden from the light, there lay a metal heart. Despite her pleas, Hope’s adoptive guardians ignored her. The heart-shaped locket remained undetected, and so did Hope’s tearless cries. It wasn’t the first time David and Linda were too busy for her.
