Biden
Joe Biden was born on November 20, 1942 in Scranton, Pennsylvania. He was the eldest child of used car
dealers Joseph Biden Sr. and Katherine Biden. Biden attended the University of Delaware and received a
degree in history in 1965. He then attended Syracuse University Law School, graduating in 1968. After
graduating from law school, Mr. Biden worked as a public defender in Wilmington, Delaware. He was
then elected to the Newcastle County Council in 1970 and to the United States Senate in 1972 at the age
of 29. Biden spent 36 years in the Senate, during which time he became known as an advocate for the
middle class and an advocate for civil rights and social justice. He helped pass legislation to expand
access to health care, protect the environment and help alleviate poverty. In 2008, Biden was elected
Vice President, replacing Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama. Both won elections, and Mr.
Biden served two terms as U.S. Vice President from 2009 to 2017. On November 7, 2020, Joe Biden
defeated incumbent President Donald Trump to be elected the 46th President of the United States.
Biden’s campaign focused on restoring America’s soul, bringing the nation together, and tackling issues
like health care, climate change, education and racial justice.
