The Personal Aquarium
The lady in black had to admit the personal aquarium contained an impressive collection of marine life. Her ex-boyfriend had created his own miniature ocean using high-end tech. There were coral and fishes of many kinds. Jellies and even a sea turtle or two. A pity there were no dolphins. With limited knowledge of the sea, she remained unsure if the sand-covered bottom resembled the actual seafloor or just replicated popular culture’s depiction. The ecosystem seemed to flourish. Maintaining the salt water alone must have cost a small fortune. Even with all the money spent, it lacked the space needed for a whale.

About Wanting
Ten years had treated the boy she used to know well. He entered the Blue Moon just as the shift she covered came to an end. She decided to stay on and serve him anyway. Would he still recognize her? They’d long since left the orphanage of their youth. He was only a month older than her and no longer the lanky teen he’d been when she last saw him.

The Opposite of Nothing
The little girl thought she was seeing things at first as she peered out of the tent’s tiny window. Her mother had told her stars only fell from the sky in storybooks. She didn’t believe her. Since stars were real, they had to fall. Why else would grownups write about them for little kids like her to read? Why would her mother bother reading the same story to her every time they camped together as a family in the backyard if she didn’t want it to be true?
