Loch
The forest was painted a myriad of greens from soft to sharp, dark to light. Ancient trees with broad leaves stood in harmony, their boughs crowded with birds, squirrels, and the odd fae-creature. A soft song threaded throughout the forest’s belly, its tone clear and warm, a sigh of beauty that cascaded through the air like a litany of life.

Godhood
Nobody can hear a scream in the vacuum of space, or so they say. I can’t tell you if that’s an accurate fact or not, as my ears are wet with blood, the only noise in my skull a shrill ringing that bounces along my brain like an over enthused pup. Even the sound of my breathing has vanished, leaving me strangely bereft. My own breath has always been a companion to me, in dark times and joyous times, and having it stolen has given me an acute sense of loneliness.

I wake to the purring engine of a train. The seat I’m occupying is one beside a window. Ivory clouds press against the glass, obscuring my view of the world beyond. Grogginess permeates my mind, blurs my ability to grasp why I am on a train and where said train could possibly be going.

Death's Dragons
There weren’t always dragons in the Valley. But now they cluster the sky, bruising the light that filters down to illuminate the small villages that dot the space of land we call home. Before the appearance of the dragons, the days were bright unless stormy, the nights softened by stars and moon. Now the Valley resides in constant shadow, its people flinching every time one of the shadows crests closer, sinuous and threatening.

An Old Barn's Memory
The shadows slip along the planks of ancient wood, their soft sighs undetected by anything other than the forgotten souls who have nestled themselves among the stale hay and dust, remnants of a time where this old barn used to be new, freshly painted and crowded with beings of flesh and warmth.

A Second Chance?
An arm sticks out from the rubble, its twisted hand reaching towards the sky, a slim gold chain knotted around its index and middle fingers. A heart-shaped locket swings from the chain, half melted from the nuclear bombings, solidified drops of metal drooping to the ground like frozen tears.

When I walk into the room, the first thing I notice is the oppressive heat. It slides over my skin like velvet, and wherever its warm fingers press against me, sweat pools, the droplets soaking into my bright crimson dress, darkening the fabric into the colour of blood.
