What if I just walked away
Away from all the pain
Turned the other cheek
Flushed the whiskey down the drain
Walked straight into the light
What would happen then
No more fights
No more just giving in
What if I just stopped
And told you the gods honest truth
That real life is truly fair
And that we've all been abused
That the sunlight of the spirit
Can be felt even by the blind
That the truth can be heard
Even by the deaf
That there's always someone there
Who can recall
Each and ever time you took a fall
And that it will all be paid back in full
What if I told you that your excuses
Only ever end up in nooses
Be through with them
This is your time to shine
What if I said you were meant for something more
Than you'd ever thought you'd become
Wouldn't that change things for good?
What if I said I'm looking for something
That money cannot buy
Because it seems everything good has a price
But be careful with things that seem one way
Cause they may be the next
Next greatest thing for God to use to test
To test you and see if you are true
Yes it's you he is molding
All the while the truths unfolding
What if I told you that I believe in Jesus
Would you put me in the corner
Til I told a lie that pleases
Would you exclude me in the choices
Would you hammer me down
Maybe I'm not the only one who goes dark
Maybe what goes really comes back around
What if I told you one day I'd talk to Moses
And David and Job
And hear their stories and how gods light shone through their souls
What if I told you many folks care for me
To the point where they'd not flinch to bleed
To meet a need for me
What if I also told you some of them forget
They are blinded by lies they've secretly kept
And what if I told you they're gonna make
Mistakes
And you may be the mark
So be careful who you judge
Else your headed for the deep end
Where the sharks live and demons come
Out to play
Lord have mercy let me never see that day
What if I told you everyone gets a shot
A shot at anything that means a damn thing
Equally
By the time it's all said and done
There will be peace that rests
Until then keep your chin up
And do your best
You'll rise above and pass the test
Pass all the rest as you fly on by
Those tears you cry will dry in time
But the love will never end
What if I told you that you'll never end either
Maybe you'd say id been huffing the ether
Whatever your sick mind comes up with
Holds no more worth than dust
Maybe the lies will rot and rust
But what will stay
That's what I'm in search of today
What will be open and honest and true
Find me a knot one cannot undo
What if one day I turned and never looked back
Would they all say then that I was on track?
