What are fixed braces?

How much does it cost?

What is the Controlled Arch Technique?

The controlled arch technique is an advanced technique focussed on getting better facial aesthetics as well as improving form and function of the teeth as well as jaws.

The teeth are commonly treated as the problem, however, if we were to dwell deeper, a combination of genetic as well as environmental factors often affect the position and size of the jaws which house the teeth. If the jaws are improperly developed, the teeth are the ones that suffer.

Controlled arch braces looks at re-establishing teeth and the jaws to grow to their genetic potential and we try to undo the environmental influences that affect them. With the jaws at their optimum size and position, the teeth can be aligned to create beautiful smiles and balanced faces.

What is the difference between Controlled Arch Braces and Traditional Orthodontics?

Controlled Arch takes a little different approach to moving teeth. This system looks at the patient’s oral foundation, not just the alignment of his or her teeth. For some patients, this can be important.

Traditional orthodontics often seeks to straighten the teeth in the position they are in, whether that position is the most natural or not. This may be an overly crowded position. In these cases, teeth may need to be extracted to create room in a narrow space, and then the teeth are aligned. But these invasive changes can all be made so that the teeth fit into an unnatural narrow position. This can lead to later problems such as potential sleep apnoea, grinding and clenching, head and neck pain and jaw pain.

Controlled Arch starts with jaw alignment and positioning. The goal is to get the jaw into its natural, genetic alignment. This is usually a wider position, which often eliminates the need for removal of teeth before the remaining teeth are straightened.

What bite issues can fixed braces treat?
