iPhone 15 Pro Max zooms to second place in DxOMark mobile camera rankings
The iPhone 15 Pro Max is Apple's flagship smartphone equipped with 5x "Tetraprism" zoom technology. Despite this upgrade, it has been unable to surpass the Huawei P60 Pro in terms of DxOMark scores. While the 15 Pro Max received recognition for its new telephoto capabilities, it did not excel in all aspects of mobile photography.

The 15 Pro Max is the first iPhone to feature a periscope-style "120mm-equivalent" lens for its telephoto camera. The DxOMark scores are now available, providing insights into the camera's performance within the group's rankings.
Apple can take solace in surpassing other devices such as its predecessor, the 14 Pro Max, as well as the OPPO Find X6 Pro, Honor Magic5 Pro with triple 50MP, and the Huawei Mate 50 Pro with variable-aperture camera. With a score of 154 points, the 15 Pro Max secures the second position.
However, it falls short of surpassing the P60 Pro, which maintains its dominance with 156 points. The device received acclaim for its accuracy in capturing skin tones, exposure, auto-focus, and stabilization in videos. However, DxOMark concluded that the new zoom capabilities lacked consistency across all ranges and that the iPhone struggled with unwanted artifacts like flare, ghosting, aliasing, and noise in low-light conditions.
It is worth noting that these results are based on just one assessment, and further extensive testing awaits the 15 Pro Max. This includes the upcoming review that will provide a more comprehensive evaluation. Additionally, it will be interesting to see if DxOMark changes its stance on testing the 15 Pro, which lacks the innovative Tetraprism camera in 2023.
