What are the pros and cons of the Internet?

The internet has been one of the inventions that has revolutionized Society in the world. From its inception, in the 1960s to becoming mainstream in the 1980s, it has changed our society.

It's changed how we shop, how we communicate, how we work and etcetera. The internet has made our world a smaller place in the way we interact with each other. In a 2008 article for the Atlantic, Nicholas Carr asked “ is Google making us stupid?”. Carr argues that the internet as a whole, not just Google has been chipping away at his capacity for concentration and contemplation. He was concerned that the internet was reprogramming us. He explained. Carr wrote the book titled the shallows; what the internet is doing to our brain (2010 then 2020). He created a controversial debate about the internet and how the medium is changing the way we think, how we interact with each other, and the very fabric of society as a whole.

The internet is many things to many people but they are both pros and cons of the internet.

Education is free or paid depending upon the course. You can learn anything you want online. Education is ongoing with opportunities for higher education. Another Pro is that the internet can help you get out of poverty by creating an online Opportunity by writing blogs and creating websites, or by selling online. Creating the gig economy.

Some of the cons include internet fraud which is a big problem. There is identity theft which is a widespread crime, and other forms of Internet fraud. There is hacking which is a big problem when it comes to institutions and infrastructures in the US and in the world. Another con is the exploitation of minors in the internet, there has to be a way to make the internet safer for potential victims. Another con is unhealthy living like obesity, and mental health problems developed by the sedimentary lifestyle the Internet propagates in its usage. Another con is Internet addiction such as addiction to social media, video games, and streaming services.

These are a few of the pros and cons of the Internet. The Internet is vast and infinite and its uses, we as a people have to determine what we will use the internet for. Either a Force for good or evil.
