On the 6th of August, 1991, scientists Vinton Cerf and Bob Kahn created the internet. Which over years started to become quite popular and now we couldn't imagine life without it. In 1997, the first true social media platform was launched which was Six degrees, which allowed users to upload their profiles and make friends with other users (The theory of six degrees of separation contends that, because we are all linked by chains of acquaintance, you are just six introductions away from any other person on the planet). In 1999, the first blogging sites became popular, creating a social media sensation that's still popular today.

So what is social media all about? Well it lets us connect to our family, friends and even people we've never met before all around the world.

Familiarize yourself with Facebook, If you have a facebook account (which im sure most of us do!) then you should know its one of the most popular social media sites on the internet. It came out in February 4th, 2004. It was founded by Mark Zuckerberg with his college roommates and fellow Harvard University students Eduardo Saverin, Andrew McCollum, Dustin Moskovitz and Chris Hughes. Its market cap has more than doubled since the end of 2016, with the company valued at roughly $720 billion as of August 2020. With facebook you can upload your profile and it gives you heaps of options as to weather you want to find someone or if your looking to sell or buy something and plenty more.

Number 1 INSTAGRAM. Instagram is a social media site where it lets you show photos of yourself and things you've captured. Which is great for people looking to get into the photography business because there are so many people out there looking for new photos everyday. It was founded by Kevin Systrom and came out in 6th of October, 2010.

Number 2 YOUTUBE. Youtube is where music and videos are uploaded on to the internet for everyone to watch and listen too. Because come on what is life without music! Founded by Chad Hurley, Steve Chen, and Jawed Karim who created it in February 2005.

Number 3 FACEBOOK. Facebook like i was saying earlier is all about connecting with people all over the world, no matter what if they've got a facebook account then you can find them. The app musical.ly was used by young people as an outlet to express themselves through singing, dancing, comedy, and lip-syncing. Created by Zhang Yiming on 2nd of August 2018.

Number 5 SNAPCHAT. Snapchat is a popular messaging app that lets users exchange pictures and videos (called snaps) that are meant to disappear after they're viewed. It's advertised as a "new type of camera" because the essential function is to take a picture or video, add filters, lenses or other effects and share them with friends. Evan Spiegel and Bobby Murphy created it on 16th of September, 2011.
