The proverb “Patience bears fruit” may or may not hold true for others, but for freelancer Shovon, it has proven absolutely accurate. Abu Saeed Bin Shovon, a dreamer who turned freelancing into both his profession and passion, faced repeated setbacks, financial struggles in his family, and the inability to pursue desired studies due to work pressures. Yet, he emerged as one of Bangladesh’s recognized professional freelancers. However, his journey to success was far from easy—it was riddled with obstacles and challenges.
Shovon, a young man from Comilla, first learned about freelancing during his 10th-grade studies from a teacher. He discovered that one could earn foreign dollars from home through freelancing. From that moment, his journey began. Day and night, he chased the dream of earning dollars, driven by an obsession to make it happen. He insisted his family buy him a computer, convinced he could earn money remotely. But for his lower-middle-class family—where even putting food on the table was a daily struggle—spending 30,000-40,000 BDT on a computer seemed as impossible as seeing the moon on a new moon night.
Yet, the determined teenager refused to give up. After relentless pleading, the long-desired computer finally arrived.
Shovon hails from a financially struggling family. His father was the sole breadwinner, running a small shop to barely sustain the household. Growing up amid these hardships, Shovon dreamed big. Academically gifted, his father often spoke of sending him abroad for studies, which inspired him. Shovon once aspired to become an architect, but misguided advice from a village schoolteacher derailed that dream. However, his freelancing dream prevailed.
For nine relentless years, Shovon learned freelancing skills, worked tirelessly, faced failures, endured criticism, and battled despair—only to rise again. Today, he stands as one of Bangladesh’s top freelancers, transforming his family’s fortunes and bringing financial stability.
Beyond freelancing, Shovon now mentors aspiring youths. He has nearly 2,000 students nationwide and earns through Amazon T-shirt sales and KDP passive income, with a monthly income of $2,000-$3,000. His students, too, are earning significant foreign currency, collectively generating around $25,000 in the last three months of 2023 (October-December).
Reflecting on his toughest times, Shovon admits his early mistake was frequently switching marketplaces, wasting time and effort. “Success in freelancing demands focus and consistency. Patience is the ultimate test—master it, and success follows,” he advises.
He debunks the myth that freelancing alone guarantees substantial income. “To build a sustainable business, collaborate within a structured team,” he emphasizes. Key steps include mastering a skill, building a strong portfolio, and entering the marketplace with rigorous practice.
Committed to boosting Bangladesh’s economy through foreign earnings, Shovon runs his freelancing company, Shovon Graphics, and mentors via the Facebook group Freelancing Zone.
For newcomers, he advises saving 40% of earnings to reinvest in scaling operations—upgrading tools, the internet, and workspaces. “Freelancing won’t make you rich overnight. Grow steadily,” he cautions.
Shovon also warns against distractions like premature relationships or unethical shortcuts. “Halal (ethical) earnings bring true success and peace,” he stresses. Balancing work and faith, he adds, “Allah grants two types of sustenance: one that distracts you until death, and halal sustenance that satisfies. Choose the latter.”
Through resilience, integrity, and unwavering focus, Shovon exemplifies how patience and principle pave the path to triumph. Here’s the English translation of the provided Bengali text, maintaining the original tone and intent:
Become an expert in a specific category. If you master any one field, you won’t face challenges in your professional work.
You must stay mentally strong. In our society, many people do not take freelancing seriously. In such an environment, you need to remain resilient and focused to build your freelancing career.
For those earning through freelancing: Avoid spending all your income. Save a portion of it. If you later aspire to become an entrepreneur, you can invest these savings into your ventures.
