The rainy season is a time of year when many people enjoy the beauty of nature and the refreshing feeling of rain. However, it can also be a time of danger, as flooding and other hazards can occur.

May flowers may be brought on by April showers, but those same rains can also make for some arduous days with young children. The presence of rain need not equate to dreary days. Here are ten entertaining things to do with your kids on rainy days.

1. Go on a rainy day walk

Go on a walk in the rain while wearing your rain boots. Let kids splash around in the puddles! What do you notice that you don't notice when it's dry? On the pavement, are there worms? When water runs down a road, where does it go? Are there any birds outside?

2. Measure the rain

Together with your preschooler or elementary school-aged child, construct a rain gauge. How much rain fell this morning during the rainstorm? Is that more or less than what occurred the other day during the rain showers? Chart your outcomes for the entire month of April. Which time of the month is drier, the end or the beginning?

3. Make rain art

When they get wet, a lot of various types of art media will run. Children can colour on paper using markers and allow them to get wet, or they can sprinkle dry paint on it and take it outside in the rain. Allow paper to become wet after having kids sprinkle powdered tempera paint on it.

4. Sing in the rain

Imagine you are Quality Kelly and head outside with your umbrella! What tunes include the downpour? "Tiny, Bitsy Bug," "Downpour, Downpour, Disappear," "It's Coming down, It's Pouring" and the sky is the limit from there! Pull on your downpour boots, snatch that umbrella and go sing in the downpour!

5. Go ahead and get wet

Don't even try to remain dry! Plan to get soaked before venturing outside. It's entertaining to go play in the rain while it's warm outside! Jump in the puddles to experience the height of the splash. In comparison to when it is coming from the sky, the rain pours down from the edge of the roof much more forcefully.

6. Play in the mud

Kids are constantly being warned by adults to stay clear of the mud. Give them permission to participate in it this time. Wear old clothes because it might be quite difficult to remove dirt out of them. Make mud pies, footprints in the mud, handprint puddles, and mud pies. Have a lot of fun when painting with mud on cardboard! Remember to snap pictures.

7. Stay inside and make a fort

What could be more enjoyable on a wet day than creating an amazing blanket fort? On a rainy day, cuddle up with your kids and take part in the fun. Fort-building in the living room. Noodles from a pool make excellent supports for tarp roofs, did you know that? Grab a large stack of books and some pillows or beanbags once your fort is built. Read your child’s favorite books while you listen to the rain fall.

8. Read about rain

There are many fantastic books that are set on cloudy days. Before the sky opens, visit the library to check out some books that are set during rainy weather. A list of recommended books for rainy days is available on Goodreads.

9. Learn about rain

Why is it raining? Does rain do anything for people? What about plants? Take some time to learn about rain with your child. Where does the water come from when it rains? Where does it go once it hits the ground? What is thunder? What about lightening?

10. Look for a rainbow

Can you find a rainbow? Where do they come from? Help your child learn what makes a rainbow and where and when to look for one. Can’t find a rainbow? Make one! You and your child can make a prism at home and create your own rainbow.
