I was recently reading about some of the changes coming to Vocal and it got me thinking about ideas I would like to see the Vocal staff implement in the future. So here are three suggestions I hope the wonderful people running this thing will take a look at and think about implementing. (Also if you do have these features and I’m just too dumb to figure out how to use them let me know and I’ll put back on my dunce hat and go sit in the corner.)

Pen Names

Like all of the suggestions being suggested being able to use a pen name won’t be a game changer but something nice. My vision for how this would work is simple, just have an option to publish under your usual name or enter in an alternative, maybe even save some favorites for repeated use. A complimenting feature would be the ability to have it linked to your regular profile (And thus all your other writing.) or keep it separate. People could develope new followings and personas under these pen names or link them to their main name to further their fan base. While obviously not a feature many people would use, I could see using it for posts written by fictional characters or maybe you have an idea for a fictional narrator like Lemony Snicket. Maybe you want to write about a sordid affair your having but dont’t want to risk your partner finding out. Before you say it I know that you can change your name anytime you want but I’m thinking something more specialized and able to be used sporadically or not at all.

Collabing

This one is pretty simple, basically the idea is to enable two or more writers to publish their work together and both share in any profits. Dividing profits in an agreed upon manner. Again probably not a feature many people would use but maybe their is a couple out their wanting to co-write a piece on parenting or forbidden lovers that want to take turns writing an erotic novel swapping between two characters. Either way people are going to want credit for their part in a project. Also this would just give users new ways to be creative which is always a good thing in my opinion. Plus this would be a great feature to couple with the new features that will coming out. I’m thinking in particular of the update that will make it easier to link our stories. This would enable user to essentially collaborate on writing a book.

Dark Mode

Another thing that will be pretty self explanatory for people familiar with internet. For those who aren’t; dark mode is when you have the option to make the screen more tolerable for viewing in the dark or dim lighting. Think Harry Potter reading under his covers. Usually this is done by turning the letters white and background black. As somebody who uses Vocal at night pretty often this would be a great little addition. Might dent some optometrists revenue stream but I think the sacrifice would be worth it. Honestly I tend to prefer dark mode on most of the apps and webpages I visit so it would be nice to see Vocal add this as an option.

Now remember reader if you have any suggestions you should feel free to say something, Vocal seems to actually listen to their customer base and likes constructive feedback so we have an awesome opportunity to make this platform into something really exciting.

as always thanks for reading and any tips are greatly appreciated.
