Rahul Gandhi to inaugurate Maha Panchayat in Kochi
Rahul Gandhi to Lead Maha Panchayat at Marine Drive

The Congress on Sunday (January 18) said that all arrangements have been put in place for its Maha Panchayat, which will be inaugurated by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Monday (January 19).
Over 15,000 party representatives, including 7,848 who had won the local body elections, will be felicitated at the meeting to be held at Marine Drive.
Mr. Gandhi, who will arrive at Cochin International Airport at 12.45 p.m, will visit eminent literary critic M. Leelavathy at her residence in Thrikkakara before reaching the venue by 2 p.m. Party leaders Sachin Pilot, Kanaiah Kumar, and K.J. George will be present. District Congress Committee president Muhammed Shiyas urged party workers to use Kochi Metro services to reach the venue to avoid traffic snarls.
The Maha Panchayat is being seen as a key organisational event for the Congress in Kerala, especially at a time when the party is placing renewed focus on strengthening its grassroots presence. Senior leaders believe the gathering will help energise workers and reinforce coordination between elected representatives and party units across districts.
Marine Drive has been chosen as the venue due to its capacity to host large public meetings and its symbolic importance as a central and accessible location in Kochi. Preparations at the venue include stage arrangements, seating for thousands of delegates, security coordination, and media facilities to ensure smooth conduct of the programme.
Party sources said the felicitation of local body election winners is intended to recognise the efforts of workers who contributed to the party’s performance at the grassroots level. By honouring these representatives publicly, the leadership aims to send a message that organisational work and local governance remain central to the party’s political strategy.

Rahul Gandhi’s participation is expected to draw significant attention from party cadres and the public alike. His presence is being viewed as a morale booster for workers, particularly those engaged in organisational rebuilding and outreach activities. Leaders said his interactions during the visit underline the party’s emphasis on connecting with people from diverse fields, including literature and culture.
The visit to M. Leelavathy’s residence has also been highlighted by party leaders as a gesture of respect toward intellectuals and cultural figures. According to Congress sources, such engagements reflect the party’s broader approach of acknowledging voices that have contributed to social and cultural thought in the State.
Several senior leaders, including Sachin Pilot, Kanaiah Kumar, and K.J. George, are expected to address the gathering or participate in key sessions. Their presence is likely to reinforce messages related to unity, organisational discipline, and future political direction. Party workers from across Kerala have been mobilised to attend the event.
Traffic and public convenience have been identified as major priorities by organisers. District Congress Committee president Muhammed Shiyas has appealed to workers to use Kochi Metro services, pointing out that public transport will help reduce congestion and ensure timely arrival at the venue. Coordination with local authorities has reportedly been undertaken to manage crowd movement.
The Maha Panchayat is also expected to serve as a platform for internal discussions on challenges facing the party at the State and national levels. While the event is primarily organisational in nature, leaders indicated that broader political messages on governance, democracy, and public issues may also be conveyed during the meeting.
Congress leaders described the gathering as a moment to reaffirm commitment to party values and collective effort. With thousands of representatives coming together in one place, the event is being positioned as both a celebration of recent electoral achievements and a step toward future political mobilisation in Kerala.
