An Overview of the Apple Vision Pro

You may ask what it is. So, here’s the deal with Apple’s Vision Pro. They say it’s an absolute game-changer, giving you this crazy infinite canvas for apps that goes way beyond your regular old screen. And get this, you can control it with your voice, hands, and even your eyes! No clunky controllers are needed, folks.

Unlike those other VR/AR headsets, this bad boy won’t block out the real world. You can still see what’s happening around you while enjoying all these awesome virtual apps and programs. Picture yourself chilling on the couch, watching something, and having a virtual screen that’s even bigger than your actual TV. It’s mind-blowing, seriously.

And here’s the best part — it’s not just for gaming. The Vision Pro is a multitasking beast! You can wear it at work and run all kinds of apps while staying connected to reality.

Even Disney’s bigwig, Bob Iger, showed up on stage to confirm that Disney Plus and other cool apps will be available for this bad boy. They even showed off some crazy experiences, like virtually attending sports matches. How awesome is that?

Now, let’s talk battery life. You can use the Vision Pro all day when it’s plugged in (obviously!) or for up to 2 hours with an external battery that can fit right in your pocket.

What’s with the prescription inserts?

So, WWDC 2023 was all about showing off the latest and greatest stuff from Apple, and the real star of the show was the Apple Vision Pro. People have mixed opinions about it. Some think it’s a technical marvel, while others think the $3,499 price tag is outrageous.

Sure, it’s expensive, but so are other Apple products. A 16-inch MacBook Pro costs more than two-thirds of the price of the Vision Pro, and that’s before you think about any upgrades. When you consider all the possibilities with the headset, I think it’s a good deal.

But there’s more to the story. If you wear prescription lenses, you’ll have to factor in the cost of those. Apple partnered with Zeiss for the lenses, and they attach magnetically to the headset for precise tracking.

We don’t know how much they’ll cost yet or what kind of visual impairments they’ll cover, but a well-known Apple insider named Mark Gurman made an educated guess on Twitter. He thinks the Zeiss prescription lenses could be around $300–600 per pair.

That’s a decent amount of money, especially on top of the already high price. People on Twitter got pretty worked up about it, with one person saying it’s adding insult to injury.

I don’t think it’s too outrageous. Good glasses can easily cost that much, and the Vision Pro is something you’ll be using all the time for work and play.
