Debt is a burden carried by millions of Americans. The reasons behind this can vary widely.

Unfortunately, financial literacy is not a top priority in the American education system, and finances are often not a topic of conversation at home either. This lack of knowledge can lead consumers unknowingly down the road to debt.

Pathrise LogoDue to circumstances beyond their control, such as health issues or other emergency expenses, some people have created a scenario where they have found themselves with insurmountable debt.

It’s safe to say that no one likes being in debt or dealing with the stress that comes with it. The good news is that there are several ways to live a financially healthy life and say goodbye to debt forever.

Perhaps the most direct route to overcoming debt is to earn more money. Of course, that’s easier said than done. People can easily feel comfortable in their careers and forget that there may be room to grow. Others may be in a business that limits their potential.

For professionals in the tech industry, Pathrise offers a multi-pronged platform to help workers reach the next level of their career and income level.

We recently spoke with Pathrise Content Lead Lizzie Kreitman to learn more about this innovative platform designed to help today’s tech workers get ahead.

“Pathrise was founded by Kevin Wu and Derrick Mar,” Kreitman said. “They were in the tech industry and also in education when they were at Berkeley. They decided to figure out how to teach people how to navigate their way to a job rather than relying on Stanford or another prestigious school.

The duo launched Pathrise in 2017 and participated in startup incubator Y Combinator the following year.

Lizzie Kreitman is Content Manager at Pathrise.

Kreitman said Pathrise initially focused on people in the software engineering industry, but has since expanded to almost every area of the tech industry.

“We now work with software engineers, web developers, product managers, product designers, data scientists, marketers, and salespeople,” she said. “It has grown well since the beginning. It also started with just new graduates, and now we are working with new graduates as well as more experienced people. »

This means that Pathrise is ideal not only for people fresh out of college, but also for tech professionals or even people from other industries looking for a mid-career change.

“After years of offering career advice to tech professionals, we’ve realized how difficult it is to advance in your career on your own,” according to the company. “Career services are simply not effective today, especially when compared to the cost of our education and the effort we put into our work.”

Pathrise is focused on leveraging the team’s expertise in the technology industry and the technology itself to deliver positive outcomes for participants. In addition to being backed by Y Combinator, the company is backed by other notable tech investors including GoAhead, BerkeleyHaas, and WTI.

Mentoring, Training and Advice to Help Clients Land Their Next Job

Kreitman explained how Pathrise works for participants, including its mentoring and training opportunities.

“People sign up for the program, and once they sign up, there’s a two-week free trial,” she said. “So they can just experience the program without signing an agreement. If they want to continue, they sign an agreement — we use a revenue-sharing agreement as the payment structure.

This means that Pathrise participants, called fellows, pay nothing until they find a job.

“We recently updated our ISA so that it now includes variable pricing,” Kreitman said. “It’s 5 to 9% of the scholarship holder’s salary for a maximum of 24 months. In this way, fellows make smaller payments each month. Additionally, we also have a good number of scholarships and discounts, and flexibility in place for people.

Fellows can expect to get advice from established professionals in the technology industry.

“Pathrise is an online program for tech professionals that provides one-on-one mentoring, training, and counseling to help you land your next job,” according to the company. “On top of that, we’re built around aligned incentives. You only pay if you successfully get hired and start with a high-paying job first.

Mentors come from places like Google, Facebook, and other big companies. Fellows can learn online with live video sessions to suit their schedules, and also receive unlimited support whenever they need it.

Mentors work with participants on a one-to-one basis once a week until they are hired into a high-tech company.

Pathrise’s impact-focused approach has already proven successful with over 1,000 fellows who have been successfully placed, representing a 96% placement rate.

The average junior base salary is $90,795 while the average senior base salary is $152,432.

Scholarships Make Pathrise More Accessible and Help Diversify the Tech Industry

Pathrise scholarships make Pathrise more accessible while helping to bring more diversity to the world of technology.

“Our scholarships were created to attract more people to the Pathrise program who are looking to learn from experts, find great work, and close the pay gap,” according to the company. “Through our workshops and one-on-one sessions, we continue to help hundreds of people find fulfilling work in companies that support their growth.”

Kreitman said Pathrise offers three different scholarships aimed at providing opportunities to segments of individuals who have traditionally been underrepresented in technology.

“People can apply to any of them they identify with,” she said. “We have a Women in Tech Fellowship, an LGBTQ+ in Tech Fellowship, and a Diversify Tech Fellowship.”

She said applying for these scholarships only adds a few simple steps to the application process.

“At Pathrise, we’re working to close the gender gap in tech by enabling more women to seek the best jobs possible,” according to the website. “Our program teaches lifelong skills and our negotiation tactics regularly increase our scholars’ salaries by 10% to 20%, which also helps to close the salary gap. This scholarship is open to anyone who identifies as a woman.

The LGBTQ+ in Tech Scholarship is open to anyone who identifies as a member of the LGBTQ+ community, including genderqueer, non-binary, and transgender people. Not only does this scholarship help financially, but scholarship recipients will also learn to look for jobs where they can be themselves.

“When we diversify our organizations, we open up space for new voices and businesses change for the better,” according to Pathrise. “Our Diversify Tech scholarship helps make the Pathrise program more inclusive for people from underrepresented groups within tech who are looking to optimize their job search and find great work.”

This scholarship is open to anyone who identifies as Black, Latino, Pacific Islander, and Native American.

Kreitman said Pathrise is also willing to help other fellows who may be experiencing financial hardship.

“We had fellows who were homeless or were on the verge of homelessness,” she said. “We had scholars who were caring for loved ones. Anyway, we are extremely flexible in these cases.

Pathrise may be an option to consider if you work in the tech industry and are looking to increase your salary while reducing your risk of running into debt issues.
