In an official letter addressed to the French star, Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) has informed him that he has only two options: to sign a contract extension until at least the end of the 2024/2025 season or to leave this summer.
Although he decided to sign another commitment with PSG earlier this summer, Mbappe is now tempted to leave France as he no longer feels content with his current situation at the club. One potential destination for the footballer is Real Madrid, a club that has been strongly courting him for a long time. However, it remains doubtful whether the Madrid team will be willing to meet the hefty asking price for the player.
According to Central Defense publication, PSG would be willing to let Kylian Mbappe leave for any club of his choice, but only in exchange for a staggering sum of 300 million euros.
Nevertheless, it is challenging to believe that any team will be willing to pay such an astronomical amount, even for the most highly-rated footballer of the moment, especially considering that next summer, the player will enter the final months of his contract with the French club.
Kylian Mbappe could become the protagonist of the most expensive transfer in history.
Real Madrid is the team Mbappe wishes to join, but they can only acquire him next summer when he becomes a free agent, a situation that PSG does not agree with. The Ligue 1 champions are looking to sell him and have already received a concrete proposal.
Al-Hilal is prepared to make the Hexagon international the most expensive footballer in history. The club, owned by the Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia, has put forward an offer "far beyond Neymar's record."
"The offer from Saudi Arabia has already been made and reached PSG before Mbappe was excluded from the squad. The amount is much higher than Neymar's record," journalist Loic Tanzi wrote on Twitter.
PSG acquired Neymar from Barcelona for €222 million.
First and foremost, it is essential to recall the idea that guided our discussions in the spring of 2022: to see you continue at PSG - a family that has gone to great lengths for your career over the years, allowing us to comply with your transfer requests when agreed upon.
This spirit has been present in all our conversations, which continue with the goodwill we maintain within our club. Moreover, in this spirit, you appeared at the Parc des Princes on May 21, 2022, to announce the collaboration, donning a jersey with the number 2025.
Therefore, you will understand that your letter - seemingly signed a few weeks after the extension announcement and its global impact (and well before the end of the summer 2022 transfer window) and its "leak" (a year later) - has caused us enormous damage, going against the spirit of our discussions and, furthermore, announcing to the market that you will be free on June 30, 2024, thus exacerbating the harm.
PSG reminds you that, considering our investments in the football world, Mbappe's future can only be either a transfer this summer or an extension after June 30, 2024, which was clearly agreed upon between us. All great players like you have left their clubs leaving a lasting legacy and, in turn, helping the club that supported them.
(...) It is urgent that we meet to define together the best option for both parties, namely: a renewal for the 2024/2025 season or a transfer during this transfer window, these are the only options to avoid a prolonged paralysis of the club caused by your recent actions.
The club's director will contact your advisors to quickly arrange this meeting. We hope that these years of commitment, goodwill, and unprecedented investments in your future will make you consider the future and the supporters of the great club who have stood by you all this time," the letter from PSG to Mbappe reads.
So far, Kylian Mbappe has expressed his desire to continue at PSG for this season and then leave for free, most likely to join Real Madrid at the end of it.
