Computers are classified in two ways.

1. On a working basis. (On the basis of work).

2. Depending on the size. (On the basis of Size).

Type of Computer Basis on Work:-

There are three types of computers on the basis of their work.

1. Analog Computer

2. Digital Computer

3. Hybrid Computer

1. Analog Computer :-

Analog computers are those computers. Which works to measure physical quantities. For example, by measuring temperature, pressure, length, width, etc., their results are expressed in numbers. This computer can also do comparison between two parameters. Analog computers are used in the field of science and engineering. These computers work on analog signal.

2. Digital Computer :-

This computer does calculations and logical operations. Digital computer converts data and programs into 0,1 and takes them in electronic form. These computers work on digital signals, most of the computers are digital computers.

3. Hybrid Computer :-

Those computers which do the work of both analog and digital computers. They are called hybrid computers. Example Petrol Pump It measures petrol etc and also calculates its value.

Type of Computer Base on Size :-

On the basis of size, computers are of following types.

1. Micro Computer

2. Mini Computer

3. Mainframe Computer

4. Super Computer

1. Micro Computer :-

This computer is small in size. Microprocessors were used in these computers. That's why they are called microcomputers. It is light in weight and cheap computer. These computers are being used in homes and small businesses. These computers are also called PCs.

PC is divided into the following parts.

a. Desktop Computer

b. Laptop Computer

c. Palmtop Computer

d. Notebook Computer

e. Tablet Computer

Desktop Computer:-

Desktop computers are those computers. Which are kept on the table and run. It is a little bigger in size. It has CPU monitor keyboard mouse etc.

Laptop Computer :-

They are laptop computers. Which are kept in the dock and run. It is very small in size. These are more expensive computers than desktop computers. It consists of CPU, keyboard, mouse together. In these, batteries are used for power.

Palmtop Computer:-

These computers are smaller than laptop computers. Which is operated by keeping it in the palm. It consists of CPU, keyboard, mouse together. In these, batteries are used for power. Their working capacity is slightly less than laptops.

Notebook Computer :-

Notebook computers are similar to laptop computers. Which are kept in the dock and run. It consists of CPU, keyboard, mouse together. In these, batteries are used for power.

Tablet Computer :-

This computer is a very small computer. It is a little bigger than a mobile. This is a touchscreen.

2. Mini Computer :-

This computer which is used for the work of server computer in companies and government offices. Their working capacity is more than that of Micro Computer. Multiple users can login on this computer simultaneously. Their memory capacity is very high. Their hardware is bigger than a normal computer. These computers are not computers used in homes. These are expensive computers. This computer is used to keep the company's database and to do other important work of the company. PDP-8 First Mini Computer which was developed in 1965. Its size was equal to that of a fridge. Its price was 18000 dollars. Which was made by DEC Company. The full name of DEC is Digital Equipment Corporation.

3. Mainframe Computer :-

These computers are used for the work of server computers in big companies and government offices. Multiple users can login on this computer simultaneously. Their memory capacity is very high. These are expensive computers. Microcomputers are used as clients in these computers. Mainframe computer is the following.

4. Super Computer:-

Supercomputers are special types of computers. They are made for special purpose. It is the fastest and largest computer in the world. In these computers, many CPUs are connected in a parallel sequence. Due to which their working capacity is very high. The world's fastest supercomputer is Sunway TaihuLight, whose speed is 93PFlop/s. India's fastest supercomputer is PARAM, ISHAN, whose speed is 5.39 PFlop/s (Peta Flop).

Functions of Super Computer :-

1- For space travel, for war

2- To know the information of meteorology

3- To make high resolution and action movies.
