Choosing the Perfect Backyard Trampoline

How to find the right trampoline for your backyard

By Peter SpringerPublished about a year ago 3 min read

Finding the right trampoline for your backyard can be quite challenge for many people, but with a little research, you can make a choice that fits your needs perfectly. The size, safety features, quality, and aesthetics are all important factors to consider before making your decision. I am now on my 3rd trampoline in my backyard and finally I have found one that suits all my needs.

Finding the Right Size

Before picking a trampoline, take a good look at your backyard. If you’ve got plenty of space, you can go for a larger model that gives you more room to jump. On the other hand, if your yard is on the smaller side, a compact trampoline might be a better fit. Don’t forget to leave some space around it so there’s room to move safely and don't end up getting hurt if you should make a wrong jump.

Inground, flatground or above ground

Now that you know how much space you got, it's time to decide if your trampoline should be above group which are the most common and those people usually think about when you mention the word trampoline. Inground which are partly in the ground making them safer and less visible or a flatgroup which is at the same level as the ground, making them much more invisible in your garden. Flatground models are often more expensive and requires quite a bit of work to install. Often it's more expensive to get the whole digged compared to buying the trampoline itself.

Who Will Be Using It?

It’s important to think about who’s going to use the trampoline most. If it’s for young kids, go for a smaller trampoline with a safety net—it’s a great way to keep things safe while still having fun. For older kids or adults, you’ll want something bigger and sturdier that can handle higher jumps and a bit more weight.

If you are into gymnastics a trampoline can be a great tool to improve you skills. With a good gymnastics trampoline you can more easily train the various jumps and learn new tricks much faster.

Make Safety a Priority

Safety should always come first no matter what you do. Look for a trampoline with a strong frame and solid legs that keep it steady during use. A safety net is also a great idea, especially if younger children will be using it. While some people aren’t fans of the way nets look in their yard, they’re worth it if you want to avoid accidents. Especially if you didn't go with the flatground model.

Focus on Quality

A good trampoline should last for years, so it’s worth spending a little extra on something high-quality. Look for weather-resistant materials like UV-protected mats and frames that won’t rust. A well-made trampoline will not only last longer but also be safer and more enjoyable to use. I would normally recommend getting a Berg trampoline if you can afford it. The quality and safety here are much better than many other models. It's not the most expensive ones, but they arn't cheap either.

A Great Option for Everyone

Trampolines aren’t just for kids. They’re also a fun way for adults to stay active. Jumping is easy on the joints and great for building strength and balance. For older adults or those with mobility issues, a trampoline with support bars can provide a safe way to exercise. It’s a great way for the whole family to stay fit while having fun. I personally love to use it with my kids.

Take Care of Your Trampoline

If you want your trampoline to last, it’s a good idea to protect it from the weather when not in use. A cover can keep it safe from rain and sun, and regular checks for wear and tear on the springs and frame will make sure everything stays in good shape. Adding accessories like a ladder or safety pads can also make it more comfortable and convenient to use. With the right care, your trampoline can be a long-lasting source of fun for many years.

Wrapping It Up

Picking the right trampoline doesn’t have to be complicated or expensive. Just think about your space, who’ll be using it, and what features matter most to you. Whether it’s for keeping the kids entertained, staying active as an adult, or helping seniors with balance and coordination, a good trampoline can be a fun ting for the whole family. Take care of it, and it’ll be a great part of your backyard for years to come.
