Introduction: There is nothing new about chatbots. They have been around since the 1960s in some form or another. However, ChatGPT stands out for its conversational nature and has captured the attention of investors, tech giants, and the public since its launch in November.

From creating custom chatbots to resolve traffic tickets to devising diet and exercise plans, the internet is full of ideas for how to use ChatGPT's human-like dialogue.

It is, however, imperative to ask whether ChatGPT, or more specifically, the technology that supports it, will have the same sweeping impact as other breakthrough technologies of our generation, such as the iPhone, Google search, and Amazon Alexa.

We will likely not have an answer to that question until 2023, but AI experts expect New products, apps, and services are on the horizon

to be enabled by ChatGPT technology by then. In addition to changing the way we interact with customer service chatbots, voice-enabled virtual assistants such as Alexa and Siri, search engines and email inboxes, it could also transform the way we use customer service chatbots., believes that we will see a huge increase The capabilities of chatbots and voice assistants in terms of conversational capabilities within six months or so.

IAs early as January 10, 2023, the potential impact of ChatGPT on the way we work is already being reported. Greg Brockman, President and Co-Founder of OpenAI, stated in a tweet on Jan. 10 There is a professional paid version of ChatGPT available with improved performance

development. According to reports from The Information, Microsoft is reportedly planning to incorporate ChatGPT's creator OpenAI's technology into its Bing, Outlook, Word and PowerPoint services, as an investor in the technology. Despite concerns that ChatGPT may negatively impact student learning, New York City's Department of Education has blocked access to ChatGPT on school devices. OpenAI has provided the solution, according to The Wall Street Journal.

is negotiating a tender offer that may value it at more than $29 billion, potentially making it one of the top US startups.

There is always a hype cycle to things, and it is understandable that this has captured the attention of the public right now, said Michael Chui, a McKinsey Global Institute partner. In spite of the hype cycle, many advancements get embedded into real-world use cases in businesses. This process has already begun.

How ChatGPT works and what it is

As part of OpenAI's research preview program, ChatGPT is a free chatbot that is available online. As well as answering straightforward questions such as "Show me healthy dinner ideas" or "How to answer the 'tell me about yourself' question in a job interview,' ChatGPT is also capable of writing poems, songs, and essays. As well as composing a holiday greeting card, you can ask it to organize your to-do list, or even draft a resignation letter on your behalf.

In ChatGPT's case, the AI is trained on large amounts of internet data, including conversations written by humans. However, ChatGPT is not currently connected to the internet, so it may produce incorrect answers and a limited amount of knowledge.

In early December, Brockman posted on Twitter that the ChatGPT software had crossed one million users within its first five days due to its humanlike prose and confidence in answering questions.

"Too often, we react to things like ChatGPT and other programs that use similar AI methods to generate artwork, like OpenAI's Dall-E, with a sense of 'Oh, those are the kinds of things we expect people to do.'" Chui said.

Better chatbots and more helpful office tools

According to my colleague David Lumb, there are already a number of one-off examples of how ChatGPT is already being used to assist with everyday tasks such as creating grocery lists and bedtime stories. Whether or not the technology behind ChatGPT will play a broader role in our daily lives is less clear. Experts are anticipating that chatbots will have a significant impact in the customer service industry, particularly in the future.

The company Ada, which offers AI-powered customer service tools to companies such as Meta, Square, and Verizon, already uses GPT-3, a version of the language model that operates ChatGPT. On Dec. 20, Ada announced that it will expand its use of OpenAI's technology.

It is possible that voicebots such as Alexa and Siri will benefit from this technology in the future.

You do not need ChatGPT to say 'Set my alarm for 5 p.m.', according to Etzioni. However, these voice assistants will likely have much more sophisticated conversational abilities in the future.

It appears that Microsoft may be working on a much better office assistant than Clippy.

A ChatGPT application could also be used to assist with the creation of next-generation office assistants, such as writing code, drafting emails, and assembling job descriptions, according to experts. Several companies, including Jasper and Unbounce, already provide artificial intelligence-powered copywriting tools that use GPT-3 to create taglines, emails, and product descriptions.

The Information reports that Microsoft plans to integrate ChatGPT's artificial intelligence model into Outlook, so that it can provide accurate search results despite the fact that you do not type the correct keywords in your inbox. It has also been reported that the company has discussed integrating OpenAI's software into Word and Outlook to create chatbots that are capable of writing content based on prompts received.

A tool by Microsoft called Github Copilot, which uses an AI model from Open AI called OpenAI Codex to suggest individual lines of code and entire functions, has also been exploring the use of artificial intelligence to speed up the development of software.

According to Yoon Kim, a professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, ChatGPT has the potential to change the face of the code industry, as well. As Kim explained, asking a chatbot to fix an error in coding is much simpler than searching for similar answers on the Internet, which is typically the process most coders follow when encountering an issue.

The ability of ChatGPT to surface information in a conversational manner has raised questions about whether similar tools could eventually replace Google. Instead of providing a selection of article snippets, ChatGPT provides a straightforward answer to questions such as "How do I get rid of fruit flies?" and "Which family is most powerful in Game of Thrones?"

It is important to note that tech giants are still considering how to incorporate it into search engines. Microsoft is planning to launch a new version of Bing that will utilize the artificial intelligence behind ChatGPT to help deliver more conversational answers to some search queries, according to The Information. According to the report, ChatGPT cannot browse the web and is therefore likely to be used to improve the way search results are presented to users.

A ChatGPT-like chatbot was also introduced in late 2022 by You.com, a search engine that was launched in 2021.

According to The New York Times, Google management issued a "code red" following the release of ChatGPT. It was reported that teams within Google have been reassigned to develop artificial intelligence tools between now and May's expected conference. This summer, former Google engineer Blake Lemoine publicized his concerns about Google's own language model, LaMDA, which is designed to achieve sentience. (Google told The Washington Post that Lemoine's claims were not supported by any evidence.)

The colloquial nature of ChatGPT is also similar to Google's approach to search and voice assistant services. The original blue link list has evolved into an information panel, snippet, and image carousel designed to answer questions directly before the user has even clicked on the link. As a result, Google's search results would be even more efficient by providing conversational answers to queries, similar to what ChatGPT does. Over the past four years, the Google Assistant has become more conversational, learning new functions such as booking reservations and waiting on hold for you.

The accuracy and trustworthiness of results provided by a chatbot like ChatGPT may not be as high as that provided by Google for some time to come. According to Kim, the MIT professor, some type of hybrid system is likely to be introduced that blends traditional search results with the conversational presentation of ChatGPT.

In addition to constructing a fluid natural language answer using the search engine's results, it can also display the sources that it used to craft the response. This is similar to the features Microsoft is working on for Bing.

Limitations and inaccuracies associated with ChatGPT

There are, however, almost as many concerns about ChatGPT as it holds potential, the main of which centers around the fact that ChatGPT is not always accurate. According to OpenAI's website, ChatGPT sometimes "writes plausible-sounding, however incorrect or nonsensical answers." OpenAI also warns that ChatGPT has limited knowledge of future events and cannot be relied upon for advice. As a result of low correct answer rates, Stack Overflow, a question and answer site for programmers, temporarily banned answers written by ChatGPT and GPT.

As Jennifer King, privacy and data policy fellow at Stanford's Institute for Human-Centered Artificial Intelligence, explained, the hard questions will eventually be raised. A number of these hard questions are expected to revolve around how are you able to determine if something is lying?
