You must have used one or another AI tool to write your assignment in the past few days. How was the experience? Did it earn you the grades you expected? Unfortunately, many students experience that their markers are quick to identify the use of AI tools while marking the papers. Their cheapest and supposedly best essay writer fails the test of authenticity as soon as it meets the trained eye of lecturers and professors.

So, the writing style of these tools is a big giveaway of the source of the paper, right? Many students can overcome this problem by changing a few words here and there in their essays. Walking this extra mile should make ChatGPT your assignment best friend, should it? Well, the simple answer is no. These tools aren’t reliable. They aren’t reliable for assignment writing today and they may not be suitable for this purpose in the foreseeable future.

Many reasons prevent these tools from replacing your brain in doing your assignments. Want to know these reasons? Here are they.

ChatGPT isn’t Built to Write

ChatGPT and similar tools are your assistants. They are there to gather information and assist in decision-making or responding. Sure, they are a perfect companion for you when you are chatting with your pals, but that’s only because you don’t need to ensure accuracy or superb linguistic standards while chatting.

In the end, the only writing tasks where you can get reliable writing help from AI writers is when the task is casual and you will not be held accountable for misunderstandings or misrepresentations. Otherwise, keep the use of these tools for the purposes for which they are built. If they are your plan writer, collect information using these, and authenticate the information yourself before using them in the final plan. The same holds for the code you write for your program or the data you collect for your essays.

Language Discrepancies

Technology is advancing rapidly and many advocates claim that soon AI essay writers will replace our best essay writers. However, that time is far away. Developers will win on many fronts soon. If everything goes as planned, in the coming months, teachers won’t distinguish between AI-written or student-written essays solely based on the language used.

These AI models will have incredible learning speed and they will understand and mimic the vocabulary, sentence structure, and tone of the student they are copying from a couple of samples. Better yet, they will build the tone and word choice of these students from scratch freeing them of the burden of finding their voice.

However, this language advancement cannot be seen in today’s world. Students feel forced to employ their best essay writing skills to convert the rough draft they get from these AI tools into legible essays. They end up spending almost the same time giving prompts, collecting AI-based work, and re-writing these essays as they would have had they chosen to write the essay themselves.

Critical Analysis is a Human Skill

While language deficiency is a tell-tale sign of these writing tools, we cannot ignore that they aren’t well-equipped to detect truthful or common-sense information from lies or biases. The primary source of information for any student is the internet these days. AI-based writing tools also rely on internet databases to collect information and build arguments for essays.

On the internet, we can find all types of resources. Some of them are based on first-person experiences, primary research, and in-depth analysis together with truthful representation. Not every resource is this thoughtful in maintaining the integrity of information over digital medium. Consequently, the internet has become mired with controversial and biased pieces of information.

Traditional and distant education channels equip students with key skills to analyze the information to detect truth from lies and solid arguments from misconceptions. A few tools we are taught to use as students to critically analyze information sources include our sense of right and wrong, the understanding of ongoing events and life sciences taught to us in our lectures, and ways to analyze the credibility of the author of the piece from where we are collecting information.

A-based research and writing tools are different. These tools focus on the quantity of information sources instead of their quality. Only the most advanced research tools are taught to identify the authenticity of information sources after inspecting the publication and the author's background. Note these highly advanced tools are costly and often aren’t offered to student bodies or the general public.

Because of this lack of ability on behalf of AI-based writing tools, students must exercise caution while picking information from them. They are often forced to redo the research using the pointers offered by these tools to ensure their work is authentic and free of factual errors. In the end, these extra steps only duplicate their efforts rendering these tools useless for serious academic work.

Analytical Skill

If you are working on theoretical essays, you can find little or more help from AI models. However, these models have proved time and again that they are entirely unreliable in handling mathematical or analytical work. The Internet is riddled with jokes and memes where one of these tools is shown to claim only two ‘r’s the spelling of strawberry.

With this basic inability to assess spelling, how can grad-level students rely on these tools to complete their important academic work, especially when they know that these grades will help them in their careers? It’s not hard to say that students are wary of considering ChatGPT and similar tools as their best essay writers.

Way Forward

If you still choose to believe in the power of AI for your academic success, be my guest. Still, keep in mind that you must exercise caution while taking the claims made by these tools in your essay. Read the essay carefully, track the sources, and rewrite the content to make it sound natural and human.

A better way to move ahead with using these tools is to consider them as your research partners. They can efficiently unearth sources of information for you and you can use these pieces of data to analyze and assess before including them in your essay.

Wrapping Up

Love it or hate it, technology is our future. We must befriend it to further our lifestyle and success. AI-based writing and research tools are similar resources that will stay in our world for the foreseeable future and hiding from them will only harm us. It’s better to start using them and build our expertise in them than to consider them our foes. Still, they aren’t our friends and they are in no way our best essay writers to rely on.

While using these tools for our everyday tasks, we must understand the purpose behind their development and how this purpose defines their limitations and advantages. While these tools are great support while chatting, they aren’t good for students’ academic pursuits because of many reasons. This blog post uncovers these reasons in detail.
