Gregory Stock, Ph.D. Prompts — When did you last yell at someone? Why? Did you later regret it?

In using the microphone at a training last week, when I would first talk into it, I felt like I was yelling as it was turned up so loud. Normally, I don’t need a microphone as my voice carries pretty well.

Our acoustics were so bad in the space we were in that it did sound like yelling when I first picked up the microphone. I did apologize for that. Other than that, I don’t remember the last time I yelled. I can argue and fight with my husband without yelling.

Another time that sticks out was after my husband's new knees were healed. He was chasing our grandson in the yard. I hollered, and he kept running. He had told me he was not supposed to run with his new knees. I saw him start to go down and thought for sure he was falling.

I shut my eyes. My granddaughter watched, and she said, “ Grandpa went down like Batman, and he came up like a superhero.”

Another time, he was supposed to tell me when coming down from the roof so that I could hold the ladder, and he didn’t. I thought he fell because the ladder was down. I found him putting the ladder back on the outbuilding. I yelled from across the yard, “You a- -hole”

I guess it is easiest to yell at the hubby, and no, I don’t apologize, as it has been when he was outdoors, and I wanted him to hear about my noticing his bad behavior. We laughed about the superhero thing for a few years.

Gregory Stock, Ph.D. Prompts — What would you do if you realized that unless you changed jobs and took a 25 percent pay cut, you would have moderate insomnia and a nightmare every month or so? Is there anything worse than the worst nightmare?

I have backed off from a job that I have been doing since before the pandemic. I am retired and 71, so I can make decisions like that, but not for the money, as I don’t make that much. It is not peanuts, either.

The problem with getting a replacement is that it doesn’t pay enough to attract the right person. I didn’t care about the money. They had to ask me three times before I said, “Okay.” I will do it. For a 25 percent pay cut, I probably would just retire and do what I can without paid work.

I would probably advise others to get some training or education for a better-paying job as they work the lesser-paying job.

No, I wouldn’t want insomnia or nightmares, and if it was related to the job, I would quit, with or without the job with the pay cut. It would not be worth it to me to stay in that job. Now, at this time in my life, I know I have options while others may not.

I don’t ever have nightmares. I very seldom remember dreams. It is usually some kind of message when I am waking up. As a child, there were nightmares, but not as an adult.

Gregory Stock, Ph.D. Prompts — If you could have free, unlimited service for five years from an extremely good cook, chauffeur, housekeeper, masseuse, or personal secretary, which would you choose?

I would choose a masseuse combined with a reiki practitioner, as in the photo above. Twice weekly would be nice. But even once a week would work. I had a massage in Mexico twice in the week I was there as the massage was brought to my cottage, and the cost was $25. versus $60–100. at the time where I lived.

That was once in my life, and it was great. Not great enough to pay what it costs now. Our insurance should cover that, and it would be good prevention and cheaper than some of the medications.

In a way you're lucky to not remember your dreams, but then again, I get a lot of my fodder for writing from my dreams... Another great q&a

  • Hahahhahahahaha you yelling at your husband is so funnyyyyyy! I would choose the housekeeper as I hate cleaning, lol

I have never slept well and often wake up in a cold sweat from a nightmare. The crazy thing is that once I am awake, I remember some parts but not others. It is incredible how the body always seems to wake up just before the really bad stuff happens.

GREAT WRITING... there are so many times I struggle with myself. Do I? Should I? I agree with yelling at my hubby but usually don't. he's got an all too sensitive ego since turn 84. yet, he wants to think that he's only 50. Yikes, he drives me crazy. I take out my frustrations on my poor keyboard and the weird stories I write. Thank you for sharing yours.
