WRITING MY FIRST BOOK: THE ADVANTAGES

How Writing a Book Can Impact You and Others

By Tiago Dunecel šŸ§‘ā€šŸ’»Published 11 months ago • 4 min read

A few years ago, during some dull days, I took the opportunity to write a book. It was my first one, and it took about eight months to complete. As many authors say, writing is a true journey: your life goes through ups and downs, just like the characters you create, and your mind travels to unknown places, finding new things and knowing more about yourself. Naturally, I wouldn’t have ventured into this activity if I did not see advantages in doing so, and as I wrote, I discovered many others. It is true that there are disadvantages, but I prefer not to focus on them right now. I would rather ignore them and inspire you to write. Therefore, here are some reasons why you should write a book:

UTILIZING KNOWLEDGE AND CONTINUING EDUCATION

It is often the case that we feel some of the knowledge we acquire, especially about our personal tastes and interests, lacks practical value. We have preferences that do not fit into our social groups. We face difficulties, feel out of place, and cannot find a space to share our passions. Society seems to have no room for what we know. We spend more and more time connected to the internet, feeding our curiosity, but rarely apply it concretely. Fortunately, writing a book offers a unique opportunity for expression. It is complete freedom! By putting your ideas on paper, you have the chance to utilize your knowledge and write about what you truly love. Moreover, as you explore what you already know, you will realize that there is much more to discover, and you will encounter limits in your knowledge that you will want to overcome. This constant discovery will be your motivation to learn even more.

OCUPPYING TIME

On public transport, during class, or even at work, there are times when we find ourselves with nothing productive to do. Sometimes, it’s hard to fall asleep at night, and our thoughts keep us awake. In those moments, it becomes clear that there is idle time in our routine that could be better utilized. Writing a book is not just about the writing itself; planning, imagining, and learning are essential parts of the process. Even moments that seemed wasted, such as the cancellation of an appointment, can be turned into opportunities. It makes every minute valuable.

USE OF EMOTIONS

We all have good days and bad days. Pain is inconvenient (it’s ****, there’s no denying it), especially when the bad moments are numerous. However, by writing a book, you can transform those feelings into something valuable. Take both the good and bad moments to add authenticity to your story. The characters you create will also experience ups and downs, and your own feelings can make them more human and real. Remember that writing is, above all, a way to express yourself.

CONVEYING IDEAS AND COMMUNICATING

A book is a means of communication, the best way to share ideas and take information to the other side of the world before the internet came along. In the professional world, for philosophers, politicians, or anyone who wishes to influence, it is essential that their ideas are well-explained and presented in a calm, clear, and thoughtful manner, creating a greater impact. Additionally, a book can be a powerful awareness tool, helping to convey important messages.

IMPROVEMENT IN WRITING AND SPEAKING

Writing a book significantly improves vocabulary and language proficiency, skills that will be extremely useful, whether for writing or conversing. You become more confident in school tasks, essays, and even in social interactions. I also found that presentations became easier, with words flowing naturally and stuttering or hesitation diminishing. I also felt that I had more ease in forming longer and more fluid sentences. More eloquent individuals are viewed very positively. Remember, as an author, you are a single person, but your characters are many, and creating them requires different vocabularies, ways of speaking, and perspectives, making you even more versatile in communication.

A WORK OF ART

The final weeks of writing will be the most tedious: revision, error correction, adjustments… a real hassle. But, with all the joy, the work will be complete. You will have a work of art in your hands, a project finished with dedication and pride. The pride of this achievement will be unforgettable, and works of art remain immortal, as long as someone shares them (seriously, always keep a copy of the file, computers work in mysterious ways). You can take it with you, share it with the world, showcase your efforts, your quality, and even try to publish it.

RECOGNITION AND INVITATIONS

Publishing a book is a valuable highlight on your resume, showcasing skills and dedication, and a great asset in some academic fields. For some people, writing a book is a way to stand out from the crowd, a way to assert their existence, to leave a mark that is impossible to ignore. It is a way to demonstrate qualities, impress, and attract attention. In addition to recognition, there is the possibility of generating revenue from sales. Think and believe that a successful book can be turned into a script for a movie, theater, or series, further expanding the reach of the work. WOW.

Let's get to work and start! 😊
