Where was I?
Writer’s block? Sometimes, you just need to stare at a single blade of grass

I am writing this because, in case no one noticed, I’ve been away for some days. Yes, darlings, I finally disconnected and I feel no guilt about it. It was necessary. And since I don’t have to ask anyone for permission, I simply did what I should have done long ago.
You see, I have been in a certain state of mind for quite some time. To try to fix it, I made some really bad choices, including trying to do what others do because, according to them, it worked. Then again, it didn’t work for me for I am an individual. We all are. And honestly, I don’t know what or who I can still trust. Most of what I see, read, or hear these days is generated to some extent. SO, this is what I did when I was not in this virtual world and other virtual spaces.
I have been looking after a rather relaxed cat, the one in the picture. His name is Mochi. He’s super relaxed, great at communication — I have to add that I have a great communication with other species, including cats and rabbits. Well, so I am here with Mochi until Sunday whilst his cat mum is on holiday. In total: 12 days.
Guess what happened? The change of environment — I’m staying at Mochi’s home — has been great. I probably said this before: I simply can’t be for too long in the same place because I get really bored, hence, that’s why I was a digital nomad for many years. I need to get back to that as soon as I can.
Going for walks in a different neighbourhood, city, country, planet (not yet) is so good. Going to a different grocery store. Drinking my tea from a different cup. You get the picture.
But it was not just that. I made some changes in my days. Instead of having breakfast whilst scrolling on my phone mindlessly, I decided to do what Mochi does every morning: come to the glass terrace and quietly observe the wildlife outside in the small garden and on the tree, especially the creatures that can fly. Those can be birds, white butterflies, flies, or other insects. Even looking at how the branches and leaves move when there is a little breeze is utterly relaxing.
Cats are very curious and love to stare at things that move. As I was watching Mochi trying to look at what he was looking, I noticed that simple passive activity was relaxing me. It made me feel so much better than scrolling on my phone.
I noticed I could focus on one single blade of grass for an extended period of time without the need for a meditation or focus application. I could follow the flight route of a bee and discover little flowers in the process. Looking at how Mochi was trying to catch a fly that was on the other side of the glass was simply adorable. His face!
Yes, these have been the best breakfast time I have had in a long time. It has been so good I am planning on continuing doing this. No more phone scrolling, no more reading anything whilst it’s my breakfast time.
This is not all. As my mind was getting relaxed, I could finally make a few decisions because I was able to think with more clarity. In turn, those decisions resulted in some of my confidence being restored. Yes, that’s right.
So, I ordered a “new” refurbished MacBook Air because for the past six months I didn’t have a proper working tool, you see. Now I have one month to get the money to pay for it. But listen to this: I landed a new client. This, after losing my clients due to the hard times the media industry has been experiencing for a few years now, so it’s great.
I am rather positive and I am absolutely sure I will soon land a few more clients that will help me recover financially, emotionally, and finally will be able to return to my life.
You see, sometimes the answer to your problems are not far. You only need to stop the world, get off it, sit quietly in silence, observe nature, and you will see the answers you need. At the very least, you will feel relaxed and with ideas popping up.
