What I Want to Write

Natalie Goldberg's Writing Down the Bones Deck Prompts - What brought you to this page? What do you want to write? Go. Tell me.

The first thing I think about is that I wanted to write books for all ages. I used them in my work and loved the results when having a conversation with program participants or when reading their writing about what they read and how it applied to their lives.

Drawing or the artwork involved in writing books for all ages has escaped me. I am not a visual artist. My siblings all got that and maybe if I did as my sister and daughter told me, I may be. They told me to doodle, and I would get there.

My sister was a well-known artist in many forms of art and my daughter is too. Art appeared easy for my sister and now my daughter.

Next is rhyming and song writing. I tried to help my grandson when he was younger in writing rap. It didn't take and he no longer at almost 26 is singing or writing rap. That turned into spoken word, and I will occasionally offer that up to an audience.

Then it was poetry. I would like to be a poetess, maybe a poet in today's language. Now rap and poetry is just for fun.

Today, I am working on a book project about Native American everyday elders and their lives in the past and today. I threw a proposal together to get some funding to complete this project. I said I will have conversations with ten everyday elders.

This is both to inform me and to inform others. Many people are familiar with the boarding school experience for some. I thought it would be important to hear about that experience from some that were there and others that had direct effects from that experience.

Even those that avoided the boarding school experience and how. Then there is growing up in the 30s, 40s and 50s. And their experience living in today. That is what I was hoping to get from this group of women. Some that I know well and others that I know of, or that were recommended to me, while trying to avoid the well-known, more famous or infamous ones.

My future writing - What I have wanted to write is fiction. I have found that I am not very good at fiction. People on Vocal and Medium genuinely believe it is about my life and parts of it always are. I find it difficult to write stories about others that have nothing to do with my life.

Natalie Goldberg's Writing Down the Bones Deck Prompts - So many feelings, moments, urge us to pick up the pen. Don't be surprised that you want to write. It's a natural human endeavor. Horses, windows, trees don't write. All people should have the freedom and opportunity. Also to read. Reading is the bedrock of writing. Allow yourself that pleasure: to get lost in a book. Naturally it follows, you want to write. Tell me about your desire to write and what you want to write about.

Fiction is on my agenda. Hope to live long enough to write and sell a good fiction piece. I would like it to be funny, taut and pacy, seamless, and delicious as the comments describe in the book pictured above. I have enjoyed watching Columbo, Perry Mason and Matlock from back in my day.

Well, actually two are court dramas, with a lot of investigation and mystery. And they are still on television today as my husband still watches them.

Wouldn't that be fun to write for a show similar to that or to write for theatre or community productions. I always thought I would get involved in theatre when I retired and maybe this is how. I have written a few kids plays in my life.

I love to read, and that is my favorite past time, although I find myself spending too much time sometimes online reading social media. I write every day. I have no regrets about that time. Although it is time to go and get some other things done now! Have a great day, I know I will.

I honestly don't know what you're talking about. I've read your fiction and have always felt they're amazingly good! 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰

I relate to you about illustrations for books. Many years ago, I drafted three books in a series of twelve about my dog Tia Belle for children. I am no artist, and despite best efforts, I could not find anyone to do the illustrations for me. Perhaps I should revisit it at the age of AI and see what emerges, or try again to find an artist. It is one of those unfinished business things that bugs me. I hope you get to write that fiction. No time lie the present to start. 😉😉

<3 The more you write fiction, the better it gets. If you don't write it, you'll never get good at it. <3

  • It is great to take something and then let it spark our work
