Write Down the Bones Deck to Free the Writer Within — This is my wish for you: that you take these cards, grab the topic on one side and write, write, write. Then flip to the other side of the card and take note.

I’ve always used the word topic instead of prompt. Prompt is the starting place, but topic indicates more the idea of plunging in and immersing. Natalie Goldberg

In the photo above I look more like the one with the messy hair, sweatshirt, and pink phone in hand drinking water. No alcohol. Only my phone cover is purple and I’m quite a bit older.

It is New Year's Eve

My brother Steve

broke his wrist

he won’t be doing the twist

on snow and ice again

I have a cold, so no outing for me amen

it’s Julianna’s birthday. She is five

They grow up so fast and she is so alive!

Natalie Goldberg’s Write Down the Bones Deck Prompt to Free the Writer Within — Tell me about yesterday.

Yesterday was Monday

Today is Tuesday

Here is a bit about yesterday

My husband celebrated 34 years of recovery

He had more but relapsed at 5 years, then made a discovery

He thought if he had never drank, he wouldn’t have the trouble

he had and wasn’t that sad. Now, 34 years later, he is humble

Well, kind of! We spent the day celebrating

I was meant to make tacos in a bag for his meeting

then due to my cold, I could not do the cooking

for that. I washed clothes, and dishes, and watched Hallmark

I always write so I got that done early. It was in the dark

I got up way too early, so I dozed on the recliner, and my cough

settled down while I talked on the phone, some things were taken care of.

Early to bed. So much more didn’t get done. Oh well, rest and water

is important with a cold. I got plenty of water and not so much rest.

One grandson and his family have the flu. Throwing up said the daughter

It could be worse for me as I could have COVID-19 or the flu. The cold is best.

This is a good one. Flat out: What was yesterday like? If it’s Monday, tell me about Sunday; if Thursday, Wednesday. We can quickly get metaphorical: “all those yesterdays.” Forget that. Stay with the exact yesterday of today. The well will be richer, more direct. Can’t remember yesterday? Get the hand moving and you’ll get there.

Another good one: give me your morning. The one that just happened,. If your mind flops over to two days ago, it’s okay. Let the hand do its thing. Follow the mind and get out of the way and let writing do writing. Natalie Goldberg

This morning, I woke early and was up for an hour. I went back to sleep and luckily got more sleep. I feel better than I have in several days. I went out to greet the day. Sunrise happened a short while ago.

Then I took pre-meal medicine and read and wrote for a bit. Ate breakfast and took morning medicine. I am finishing today's prompt post. I scheduled a Zoom meeting to discuss an agenda for a presentation that will be scheduled for a Friday in May.

The topic is Suicide prevention in the Native American community. I have been texting and talking with my co-facilitator about what we intend to do on this day. It feels weird planning out so far ahead. The life and times of a culture consultant.

Now, on to cleaning my C-PAP machine, starting the dishwasher, folding and hanging laundry, and working on my book. Unless I crash again. Hallmark has been pretty good. I will fit in some rest times too.
