By Rick Henry Christopher Published 2 months ago โ€ข Updated 2 months ago โ€ข 3 min read

We finally have the WINNERS of the Tales from Beyond: The Haunted Letter Challenge.

As we move out of the trick or treat month of October and into the reflective month of November I will shift my gears from Groovy Ghoul to Thankful Talker.

๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ™

Top of the list for this raconteur is to THANK the Judicious Judges that made this challenge happen.

๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ™

Lamar and I have partnered on a few challenges already and let me tell you this man is brilliant and totally down to earth. He comes up with many great ideas but is also open to the ideas of the others onboard. And his Scorched hot sauce is flaming great! Thank you, Lamar for being a community leader and for helping to catapult this challenge into a wonderful source of fun and entertainment for many.

๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ™

Marie Wilson is a super talented and super creative writer, actor, comedian, performer, creator, and all around spectacular person. It was such a pleasure working with Marie and getting to know her better. She brought to the table several great ideas and was the epitome of a great team player. If you havenโ€™t read any of her stories here on Vocal I suggest you hop on over to her profile and check a few out - she is a great writer. Thank you Marie for bringing a creative angle to this challenge, we sure had an extraordinarily great time.

๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ™

Ray Taylor is a Vocal Media Superstar! He is well known for his phenomenal challenges. One of his best and the most interesting was the โ€œOh, Jeff... I love you, too... Butโ€ challenge. I participated in that one and I had a blast. Thank you, Ray for lending your expertise to this challenge it was a fun and engaging experience.

๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ™

Behind the Scenes

Each judge brought their ideas to the table for the challenge topic. Some of the proposed topics were: Witchy Story, Memorable Halloween, and Impossible Escape. Our four person judges panel voted on the proposed topics and The Haunted Letter won.

๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ™

The Criteria

The following are the guidelines the judges used to rate and review each story:

  • Originality/Uniqueness/Creativity
  • Well-Structured and Engaging Content
  • Adherence to Theme/Prompt
  • Proofreading/Grammar/Punctuation/Structure

We graded on a 1 to 10 scale in each category with one being the low score and ten being the high.

Each judge gave their favorite story an additional 3 points.

The maximum amount of points any story can receive from one judge is 43. With a cumulative maximum of 172 points.

๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ™

Bonus Points

Each judge gave their favorite story 3 extra points. Marieโ€™s favorite was โ€œLetters from the Frontโ€ by Matthew Fromm. Lamar split his three points between two stories: "Dear Ouija Enthusiastsโ€ by Marilyn Glover and โ€œWhat Remains" by Gabriel Huizenga. Ray Taylorโ€™s favorite was โ€œHaunted?โ€ by Kendall Defoe. My favorite was โ€œOld Hags and Lovely Witchesโ€ by Novel Allen.

Congrats all! ๐ŸŽ‰ I read this a couple of days ago Rick, but it was via Facebook and I couldnโ€™t remember my login password. ๐Ÿ˜… Usually Iโ€™m Already logged in via fb or on here. So that is why I commented on fb and not here. Iโ€™ve been struggling with some diabetes issues that got out of control this year, still trying to find a balance and get my levels under control with a couple of meds and eating better. So Iโ€™m on yet another break again, so not around a whole heap. Hope you are well Rick and good to read something of yours again.

Just want to say thank you to all the judges for such a fun challenge. But also for the very clear feedback and judging criteria. And of course for liking my short little offering. Had such fun with this. โค๏ธ

It's an honor to even be listed amongst such incredible entries. Thank you to everyone for all your hard work in judging! It must have taken several days to get through all of them and then dole out the points. This was a great challenge and clearly very ripe for creativity. Thank you all again!

So many amazing entries! Congratulations to the 8 talented writers who placed and also to all who entered! Your excellent writing made it a pleasure to read all the stories, if difficult to rate. Keep up the good work!!

  • Raymond G. Taylor2 months ago

Congratulations to all the winners and really well done to all of the entrants who, in my book, were not only brave (I have to hide under the sheets when I write a horror or spooky) enough to enter but did a brilliant job. I would happily have given the prize to every entrant... except I am not that rich/generous. Well done to all who survived Halloween too. Anyone who didn't, I guess we'll be hearing from you next scare season, Yikes!
