🌟The Last Name...🌟

Why Zayan Ali_Roll No 57_Was Always Absent

By Salman JavaidPublished 9 months ago • 2 min read

Roll number 57… never showed up in class, but stayed hidden in every heart.

It was the final semester at university. Everywhere, there was a buzz – farewell functions, photo sessions, placements, last assignments. Everyone was busy making plans for the future.

But there was one name that appeared at the end of every semester’s attendance sheet... Zayan Ali – Roll No. 57.

And next to his name, it always said: Absent.

He never attended class.

Neither the seniors, nor the juniors, nor any teacher had ever seen his face.

A few people used to say:

Probably a fake admission.

Maybe he took a gap year.

Oh, him? It's just a joke... the ghost of the class!

No one took it seriously.

🕰️ Then came the day of the farewell.

Everyone was ready – sherwanis, suits, gowns… lights, music, fun. Group photos were being taken in every corner.

Then, in a quiet corner, a boy came and sat down – thin, different from the others. He didn’t speak to anyone. Just sat there, quietly.

He held a plain brown envelope in his hands.

He placed it on an empty table… and walked away without saying a word.

đź‘€ No one really noticed.

After he left, a girl picked up the envelope, opened it out of curiosity…

And inside was a letter.

The letter changed the entire atmosphere of the farewell.

Letter:

I am Zayan. Roll No. 57.

I paid my semester fees on time, but I never could attend class.

Why?

Because my mother was fighting cancer.

I took care of her during the day, and worked night shifts at a private hospital as a nurse. In between, I would listen to online lectures, email assignments… but I couldn't physically be there.I never wanted sympathy from anyone.

Today is the anniversary of my mother’s death. I’m here to see the place where I could have been.I often thought of joining the class… but I couldn't bring myself to let go of my mother.

Maybe I was far from you all, but you were all in my prayers. If ever you see a name in the attendance sheet and that person isn't in class…

Maybe they're out there facing the exams of life.

Everyone went silent.

No one could say anything.

From that day on, a story began circulating among every new batch at the university:

Never make fun of someone's absence… what if they're fighting their own battles?

✨ MORAL:

Every student has their own story. There’s always a reason behind every name. Never mistake silence for weakness.
