I remember it clearly. It was raining—not the kind that dances on rooftops, but the kind that soaks your soul. I had just received news that left me shaken and numb. I was walking aimlessly down a street I barely recognized, lost in a blur of my own thoughts. Everything felt heavy. Too heavy.

My umbrella had flipped inside out. My phone was on 2%. I didn’t even have the energy to cry. I just kept walking, hoping the rain would wash away the ache in my chest.

That’s when it happened.

I was sitting on a bench, completely drenched and shivering, when a woman approached me. She looked like she was in a rush—heels clicking against the pavement, phone in hand. But then, she paused. Looked at me. Really looked.

She didn’t ask what was wrong. She didn’t try to force a conversation. She simply handed me a coffee. Warm. Sweet. And then she wrapped a soft scarf around my shoulders.

“It’s okay not to be okay,” she said gently, with the kind of smile that somehow makes you believe things will get better.

And then she walked away.

I never got her name. I never saw her again. But in that moment, when everything felt dark, her small act of kindness was a spark. It didn’t fix my problems—but it reminded me I wasn’t invisible. That someone, even a stranger, cared enough to stop and see me.
