The Contribution of Science to Modern Civilization

The extent to which science has contributed to the welfare of humanity can be felt from diverse daily experiences. The development of human civilization from the primitive era to the present era is rooted in science.


In ancient times, man, deprived of the light of science, was a plaything in the hands of nature. When the animal-like cavemen first started rubbing stones together to make fire, human scientific discoveries began. Then, wherever they faced obstacles or needed help, they used science. By using science, man has now established dominance over the entire world. Wherever one looks at human society, only the glory of science becomes clear. With the help of science, man has conquered water, land, and space, and has discovered many unimaginable techniques to solve human crises and provide happiness and comfort. Electricity, atomic energy, computers, etc. are amazing discoveries of science.


Science has given man the knowledge to analyze and the instinct to observe. That is why man is newly engaged in the search for the secrets of creation. Man is running from planet to planet in search of the vast secrets of the universe. Man was once helpless before the whimsical forces of nature. Helpless man once considered nature as his master. Today the times have changed. Now man controls nature. With the blessings of science, man has become the master of nature today.




Scientists are constantly trying to defeat terrible diseases like cancer. Streptomycin, penicillin, ultraviolet, X-ray machine, ultrasonography etc. have enriched medical science. Pen and paper for writing, newspapers for acquiring knowledge, books are the blessings of science.

Weapons have been invented for self-defense. Radar has been invented to destroy enemy aircraft. Computer is a wonderful invention which is working from business to space research. It is making a revolutionary contribution in the field of planning, analysis, monitoring, control etc. of human thought.




The rapid progress that humanity has made since the Industrial Revolution in Europe in the 18th century to the beginning of the 21st century is astonishing. This success has been achieved today as a result of the relentless pursuit of many scientists. If science is used entirely for the benefit of civilization and not against it, then this world will be a safe and happy place for humanity.

Electricity is the main driving force of modern life and civilization. Without it, a developed and luxurious life cannot be imagined. Michael Faraday said, "Electricity is the soul of civilization." That is, electricity is the soul of civilization. But in our country, the production of electricity is very less compared to the need. Moreover, due to our ignorance, a lot of electricity is being wasted. Therefore, for the purpose of progress and prosperity in national life, the normal production of electricity and its proper use must be ensured.
