Please Don’t Use ChatGPT to Make Money Online on Vocal 😢

Just because there’s a tutorial online, doesn’t make it fine.

I can’t believe I am actually saying this. But the AI abuse has gone on for too long and there’s videos outside of the platform that are actively encouraging it. After doing my best to be the decil’s advocate on AI, I don’t think I can do a good job on being that role anymore. Especially when people think it’s okay to use AI just to make a quick buck and take that spot away from somebody who worked work on their story.

So I’ve come across not just one, but three videos on YouTube saying you can make lots of money online using ChatGPT and pasting it Vocal. I watched one in full…

At first I cringed, and I wanted to click away. I hated the way they interpreted Vocal as some soulless cash machine. Then I got to the end of the video and frowned. It made me feel sad. Please don’t do this! Just because there’s a tutorial on social media, dosen’t mean it should be followed. Something online dosen’t make it fine.

I am not saying you can’t use ChatGPT at all, but it shouldn’t be your only tool. Vocal is about authentic content, so you should declare any Chat GPT content used in your articles. It’s really a bad idea to just rely on ChatGPT on Vocal or any other site you write for. Real voices are being drowned out and the AI spam is taking away the benefits that a lot of content creators and staff had worked hard for so long.

There was a point where Vocal gave all authors bonuses everytime a writer had published their 50th story on the site. That has since stopped, due to an influx from of spammers taking advantage of this incentive and not declaring Chat GPT. Some publications outside the platform have stopped taking submissions cause of an influx of AI content. It’s gonna come to a point where AI generated content will be banned of the site completely. I actually think it will be a good thing because it means that authentic voices and pieces can stand out more.

Does anyone remember all the tutorials on YouTube where everyone was saying you can make loads of money on Amazon? By creating book covers on Canva and using empty book templates for notebooks, journals and colouring books you had an endless supply of content and the money will just role in. Or so they say. This was also known as low-content books.

A lot of people got their accounts suspended on KDP. Some where able to get their accounts back, but many did not. The most common seemed to be unintentional plagiarism and copyright violations. Now there is tighter rules for low content books on Amazon. You know have to tick a box if it’s a low content book. I think Vocal should an option like this for AI content to tick yes or no.

AI should be a tool for your work, and not your servant! Vocal is a place of creativity. A family of community blogs. A home of lavish stories, geeky Fanfiction, playlists, fan works, original works and recipes. Whatever you can write from the heart will always have a special home and place on Vocal.

And if you do use AI in any of your work, it is good practise to declare it. As of writing this post, it is still essential to declare AI generated work. Because I don’t want you to get suspended and lose your account and earnings like so many low content book creators did when their works got taken down.

We cannot really stop the advances of AI, but it's important to talk about it so those who really don't know what's going on can take proper action. I recently posted my stance on AI-generated content for profit on Vocal and elsewhere. People don't realize the long-term consequences of trying to cheat the system for a quick buck. I co-run and co-edit a publication, and we recently started receiving AI-generated content. Needless to say that the people who did that are banned for life.

I have had work posted on YouTube that barely acknowledged my contribution, and I think that this will only get worse. Thank you for this!
